Man Gets Probation for Dead Deer Sex
SUPERIOR, Wis. Mar 21, 2007 (AP) A 20-year-old man received probation after he was convicted of having sexual contact with a dead deer. The sentence also requires Bryan James Hathaway to be evaluated as a sex offender and treated at the Institute for Psychological and Sexual Health in Duluth, Minn.
"The state believes that particular place is the best to provide treatment for the individual," Assistant District Attorney Jim Boughner said.
Hathaway's probation will be served at the same time as a nine-month jail sentence he received in February for violating his extended supervision.
He was found guilty in April 2005 of felony mistreatment of an animal after he killed a horse with the intention of having sex with it. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and two years of extended supervision on that charge as well as six years of probation for taking and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.
Hathaway pleaded no contest earlier this month to misdemeanor mistreatment of an animal for the incident involving the deer. He was sentenced Tuesday in Douglas County Circuit Court.
"The type of behavior is disturbing," Judge Michael Lucci said. "It's disturbing to the public. It's disturbing to the court."

Very strange. Why did he kill the deer first? And the horse for that matter? Must be some kind of necro-beastiality thing... |

I read an article about sexual deviance yesterday that pointed to some very common anti-depressants as a way to curb criminal or dangerous sexual impulses, often leaving the normal libido intact. It seems that the deviance and the normal sex drive reside in different parts of the brain, or respond to different chemicals. It's amazing to me that we can even get away with using the word "deviant" but there seems to be biological evidence for it. |

A Clockwork Orange. Modern living through drugs!
I wonder if scientists will one day locate & neutralise the point in the brain that makes guys want to cheat, women want to eat mint chocolate chip ice cream, and Korean academics want to plagarise. Wouldn't that be great!

Here's the link to the NYTimes article, if you're interested. It's written by Lauren Slater, a psychologist who is quickly becoming my go-to-gal for thoughtful and provoking pieces on the field.

I want to know if it was his horse and deer. If so, I say more power to him. At least he didn't go out and pick up a little boy or girl. It isn't like the dead horse and deer are going to complain. |

It's my hometown. It's nice to see the little sleepy town of Superior being noticed for something...
The guy is disturbed. They keep putting him in jail. Part of the problem is there is no program to help him and nobody knows how to help him. It is a bestiality issue but their is lack of information on how to treat it. It is freaking the heck out of the people in Superior because they are worried he will move on to people or children. I see their point. Every time I drive down that road where he had sex with that deer I cringe, it is a very haunting story.
It was not his horse, he shot the neighbor lady's horse to have sex with it. The dead deer was on the side of the road, hit by a car. He rode by on his bicycle, saw it laying there and had sex with it. |

No, I think he'll need a freakier place like Thailand. |

Was the horse male or female?
Cuz if it was a male, then that's just gross. |

No, it's not "sheds a new light on" in this case. You might say "puts a new twist on" or maybe "gives new meaning to", however. |

your're right. It's the time difference. While everyone is jacked-up on coffee over there and full of morning wit, we're just getting warmed up for the crazy nightlife here in Costa Rica and just plain don't have time to think these things through... |
