I'm opening myself up to be flamed - but I find some of your peoples' ignorance to be a little offensive. It seems that whenever a gyopo posts something about wanting to come to Korea - there are always a handful of non-gyopos posting about how badly they're treated. i.e. "You shouldn't come over because you're not Korean enough".
Well listen and I'm talking to YOU people - just because you've been in Korea for 2 years doesn't make you an authority on Gyopo-Native Korean relations. The only posts on being a gyopo in Korea with any sort of legitimacy - are posts from actual gyopos themselves. To me, I find it a little like a white person telling a black person he's "not black enough" to go back to Africa. Or a Christian telling a Jew he's "not jewish enough" to hit up Israel.
Any fellow-gyopos want to agree or disagree with me? |

This place should have a new subforum just for kyopos. The OP and that Easter Island head guy could moderate it. |

Wouldn't you want a variety of opinion if you were a gyopo thinking of coming over? What do you want? For everyone to tell you what you want to hear? Two days and two replies from two gyopos telling you basically what white people would?
The whole term gyopo is a bit of a Korean fallacy at any rate. I'd divide them into (a) left after age 18, (b) left between 8-17, and (c) left 7 or younger or were born abroad. (a) a Korean who moved, (b) genuinely mixed culturally, (c) banana. |

I post on gyopo threads. So what?
An opinion is an opinion. It's up to the OP to figure out how useful that opinion is.
I'm Black (woohoo! ) and I don't think I'd write something like that here. Why? Because who's the majority on here? Most likely the same non-gyopos who you are complaining about.
You might need advice from these same people someday, don't be surprised if they have long memories and don't help you... |

i'm a gyopo and i spent several years in korea teaching english doing that whole thing, and i've never ever been once treated unfairly, well i have had some annoying comments from different people but i've had MORE annoying comments from people in Canada actually, annoying comments can't be avoided anywhere, but i had no serious problems with my life there and none of my other gyopop friends did either. when i read those comments on the net about how gyopos are treated like sh!t and life sucks for them and they'll be discriminated against and all i've always been like "WHaAaAT?" you do seem to get all kinds of them on the internet
gyopos reading this: GO TO KOREA AND SPEND SOME YEARS. your whole worldview will be changed.. you will indeed learn to appreicate with your roots and the vast majority of native koreans will treat you well |

That's quite true for the most part based on what I've observed. However, if you don't know the culture or the language, expect some real hilarity. I can remember standing at the urinal with a fresh gyopo explaining to him what a hwajangsil ajuma is as he couldn't believe a woman had come up and started mopping the floor around our feet. Better yet was the look on a kiosk ajoshi's face when a white guy had to translate for a kyopo who'd only been here a month. I also enjoyed listening a kyopo adoptee with white parents who spoke no Korean give her account of being told off by the ajoshis for having her arm around the white fiance she brought to Korea with her. |

Dude, it's all relative and has little to do with race or "white man" trying to be a dick.
Some white folk here will tell other white folk they will have a tough time in Korea. Some will say the opposite. Is anyone really right or wrong? No. Just different experiences.
JUST THE SAME, some white folk here will tell kyopos they'll have a hard time. Are they being dicks? No (most of the time). Just relating their experiences. I would never tell a kyopo not to come, but I've definitely talked to some kypops who have felt uneasy here. Shiat happens
My advice: Give up the whole Kyopo vs. white man angle you're playing. Dicks on both sides. Cool folk on both sides as well. |

I've posted on thread where someone who is part Korean asks questions because I've worked with a few and have heard both good and bad. I agree with Ya-Ta, why wouldn't someone want to get a variety of opinions.
I guess your posts shows why people shouldn't be helpful. Some people don't appreciate it. |

You must be korean, let me guess, the little guys "big brother", well look on the bright side, you guys can pm each other and cry about how sad you are because while the girls are with us, you are crying about something dumb. Hey, maybe on weekends you can hang out together! |
