I got some vicious spyware in my computer from using one of those torrent sites to download movies. Now I am getting random pop-ups for all kinds of things including Adult Friend Finder. How embarrassing!

I've tried Spybot and Ad Aware and neither got the bugger out of my computer.

Any suggestions?

Step 1:

Download and run adaware:

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10639408.html?tag=lst-0-1

Run a full scan and check whatever boxes for stuff it finds, and delete it all. That probably won't get everything, so:

Step 2:

Download BHR at http://www.download.com/Browser-Hijack-Recover-BHR-/3640-8022_4-10422752.html

BHR works very well, and it's free. Get rid of the things that don't look like a normal part of Windows. Run the wizard to help you through. Pay special attention to Browser hooks.

These two steps should solve your problems. In the rare instances when the problems are not solved, you will likely need to reinstall IE (BHR can help you do this if you have the windows disk) or reinstall Windows entirely.

Also be sure to delete any extra IE icons on the desktop, as they can be redirects to bad pages.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but Korean Spyware will NOT be removed by English Anti-Spyware.. I know.. The only thing you can do is manually remove it..

Oh CCleaner is nice.. Startup applet is good as well.

Many of the top anti-spyware programs are available in Korean, and they are used enough that the spyware is caught and sent back to the main company for updates. No program gets everything all of the time, however.

I've only encountered one instance in 50 computers where I wasn't able to remove everything I needed with a combination of the above two programs (Adaware and BHR). Oh, and a full boot-scan involving Avast was required once or more to clean viruses. I also like installing ZoneAlarm to keep track of what's going out.

I had to do full reinstall of Explorer in that case, because main windows files had been damaged or eaten.

Use a different browser(e.g. Opera, Firefox, IE, Netscape) while in school. That might work yet it won't solve the technical problem, just the social problem! Embarassed

Actually, you can install the original Korean version of PC-Clean (there are other similar Korean software, but most of them charge a fee every time you use them). It works great. Call the computer guy if your CPU is maxed by popups and the odds are that this is the software he'll use to clean out your computer.

No. Because the code is in English/numeric.

So does it effect computers in Korea only, or those all over the world?
Why do we have to use Korean anti-spyware programs to get rid of it?

Because the people who make these anti-spyware programs have to know the spyware they are trying to remove. They might not know about Korean spyware.

To the OP: if none of these programs solve your problem, and you know when you got the bug, do a system restore on your computer to the day before you downloaded it.
