|
|
I'm having quite the week...Wednesday I was lucky enough to sit down next to the guy who eventually started wacking off.
There was a woman running around the hallway in my officetel screaming over and over and over again at 5:30AM. Shortly thereafter a guy was screaming as well. I was tempted to go out and tell them to STFU but I was too lazy and was 1/2 asleep.
As I left for work, there were at least 15-20 police officers in the lobby outside of the management office. The floor was covered with water and dirt and the people who have been protesting against the mafia and rackateers for the last 2 weeks were huddled together, obviously in shock at what happened. Outside there were 4 busloads of police, along with several police cars.
If anyone knows what the hell is going on at Poonglim in Seohyun please let me know. Other than the flyer I received telling me about the rackateers controlling businesses in the building, I've been left out in the dark. I'm guessing these mafia guys came early this morning and attacked the protesters. The woman and man who were screaming were probably trying to tell everyone what was happening downstairs...... |

Police showing up at apartments to break up fights in Korea is a fairly common occurance.
Happened twice at my previous apartment. |

Yep. I can remember back in the day when the riot police rolled up in their bus during the imfamous "Goombah-tennant riot of '92" in Regina. Of course, the streets of Regina were crawling with mafia back in those days. They especially liked to hang out at the cafeteria at Zeller's. Pretty much had their way with things back then. Crazy times, those were. |

But 4 buses full of police? This wasn't just a small fight. The whole lobby was trashed, doors have been locked with chains and tables have been tied to the doors at night so people (the mafia guys im assuming) can't open them up. The protesters put up banners around the building on Monday night, but by Tuesday they had all been cut down. I hope these mafia/rackateer scumbags get out of the building soon.
A little background info you guys maybe didn't read in my previous post:
"I just found out why a bunch of extra security guards have been brought into my officetel building and why people are protesting by sleeping outside of the building management office. When I came home this afternoon a woman gave me a flyer in english explaining that korean mafia and rackateers live in the same building and the protest is to get rid of them. They have been living and operating their businesses rent free for nearly 3 years. The mafia guys even hired out their own security, so the protesters hired their own security since the original guys were all corrupt. The letter explains that the protesters are now fearful because the old security company and rackateers might attack them and retaliate." |

That building has been constantly like that for at least the past 3 years. The guy that owns that building is the biggest crook this side of the 38th. I have never heard of an apartment building having so many protests and problems with mafia as that one. |

Ha! Ha! I heard those guys too. Most of my colleagues and I live in that building, so we've been trying to figure out what's going on. Clearly, it was some kind of protest or demand for action to evict the "gangsters" running the building. My friends said the man (and screaming woman) were telling everyone to come outside in support to fight the gangsters. I assume the police were just there to break up the crowd.
From the literature we received and the stories going around, it seems like there is some sort of turf war going on regarding the management. While this is something I would have expected the court system to work out, apparently there is actually a battle for who will phyically occupy the office and you get the feeling that a bunch of thugs with baseball bats could take over at any time.
Unfortunately, I don't really have any good info for you. But, like the rest of us, just don't worry about it. We don't own the apartments, and I don't really see how we can influence the politics involved, so just keep your head down and don't ask why the escalator never works. If only they would drop our maintenance fee down, particularly since there seems to be relatively little maintenance going on. |

Eeeek.... we thought about moving into that place, but the few places we saw were trashed... absolutely trashed for a place so new. And the rooms were kind of odd-shaped, given the pyong-size we were considering.
A friend of mine used to sell memberships to the health club there, and knowing her, she probably got her job through the mob. |

Just out of idle curiosity, how is it that so (relatively) many of you know about this one particular building? Seoul is a megalopolis, and there's a mind-boggling number of places to choose from in every single -dong in the city. |

Because it's a huge building in Bundang, full of teacher-type offictell homes. Lots of military foreigers live there too. One of the first things you see (and oval shaped, making it a bit different) as you enter the Seohyun area of Bundang from the Pangyo 1 Highway exit.
Bennigans is also there, btw!
Worknplay's offices are there. |

If I heard correctly, that building has 2,000 units. It is huge. If it was in Seoul, we probably wouldn't know it, but it is Bundang. |
