And I couldn't get my hands off it since I took it out of the shop :

EDITED : OK so I need to add some details about this player. It is one of the better sounding MP3 players out there, the bass is tremendous and even without the acclaimed Jet effect it is very clear and concise. It plays video as a bonus but the best thing about it for me is the SD card slot that allows up to 8GB of extra storage. The 50 hour battery time is also pretty amazing.

Thanks guys. I have to say that MP3 players is something that this country can get right (Monitors being the other) and I'm a big fan of their innovation. Cowon/iAudio have had the reputation of producing good audio players (Creative being the other) so it was a matter of time before I would get one.

I was seruiously looking at the iRiver Clix/Clix2 which is truely innovative with its click navigation, only reason why I got the Cowon was because of its better battery life, SD support and better technical features.

The best thing about your player is that it is so easy to change the battery, that thing should last a lifetime!

Oh, if I may add - If you guys are looking for the best prices for MP3 players, PMPs, HD based players then you should go to the furthest place from IMall as possible. Some of the guys selling so far from the station are probably hurting for sales, so give them a shot. Needless to say, they still gave me a 10,000 won discount and a free Cowon case for my player Very Happy

of course I'll tell her. She is a technotard and could care less about features. All she wants is to listen to music and audio books. She always gets the electronic handmedowns. she also complains when i buy new tech, but once she gets used to the new stuff wonders how she can go back.

good example. Who needs two monitors? A few months later she insists that her office buy her a second monitor for her computer, now her entire company has gone with two monitors. Wait till I get my new computer and set it up with 4 monitors Twisted Evil

In another thread I mentioned how I don't often buy Korean brands, but Cowon is the exception. I had a flash based Cowon mp3 player for years, then upgraded to the X5L, which I still use on a daily basis. Great sound quality, and they play pretty much every format you throw at them. My next Cowon will probably be the A3 or the Q5.

My X5L plays several versions of flac (There are several different compression levels IIRC.)

Some quick shots :

The old mp3 player has been relegated to being a USB drive, albeit a very good one Laughing

Was just comparing the 2 players with the same songs connected to my 2.1 speakers, the Cowon is definitely more powerful with the music being a little more forwarding. Piano stands out a bit more but not so overwhelming that it drowns out little Anthony Callea.

You can get it at 2GB or 4GB capacity and with or without DMB. I didn't need DMB so I just got the 4GB version, costing me $260,000. If you want everything on it then its about $360,000. Get a 4GB or 8GB SD card and you've got a pretty good setup. Thankfully my Nikon takes SD cards so everything is all good.

The Cowon plays all the music format that you can throw at including FLAC and APE, as well as AAC and WMA, however I couldn't play the FLACs that I had problems playing on my PC (so I think they must be corrupted).
