Well, I know lots of other stuff is priced well at the Apple Experience store in COEX, which just recently re-opened.

Worth seeing.

There are the same price everywhere in Korea, just as they are the same price everywhere back home. It's a standardized pricing scheme.

'd probably be best if you ordered from your home country..assuming that's legal.

Why wouldn't it be? I've bought 3 laptops, 2 digital cameras and a digital camcorder from back home and had them all shipped here without a hassle.

To answer the OP, the A# store in COEX is probably best, but you can also go to the one across from Mool nightclub, down the street from Shinsa station, too.

I ordered mine by phone from apple Korea. Good service. Had some problems with it so they swapped it in about 24 hours by delivery. You can also get a discount if you tell them you are a teacher. They speak English. Here is the site and number http://store.apple.com/080-3404-622/WebObjects/koreastore/

I don't know where the best place to buy one is, but I can tell you where the best place to discuss it is.

There is a tax for computers called something like transportation fee (or delivery fee) or some other random thing. I believe it is around 15% of the computer. Of course you donlt have to pay that if you can get someone to bring it to you from overseas.

I have the same question.

"Huge"? Depends on your definition, I guess. Laptops are 10%. Even paying that 10% PLUS courier service, I still saved money over buying it directly from Apple Korea. Same with my digital equipment. It's just WAY overpriced here. Ship it here, pay the Duty and taxes and save money.

Coex store has the best selection / accessories...

Shinsa station has some, but the store is pretty small (compared to the Coex store).

There is also an office supply store and music store in Coex that sell them in conjunction with the new Coex store...

I was told that the only way to receive the teacher discount in Korea was to order by phone or online.

Some have a different story...

My girlfriend just bought a computer component stateside, and had it shipped to Korea. The peripheral cost $109 US. She did not label it as a gift. It was not used. Still, we figured customs would be like 25,000 won. Maybe 30,000.

They called us and want 100,000 won! Are we getting jacked? What are my options? Am I going to have to just bend over on this one, or is there recourse? I don't know if someone is trying to roll a waygook or if it actually costs that much.

Do this. I got my MacBook (the middle version) for 1.3 million after the discount. The keyboard is in English and Korean. Everything works fine and you get it within 2 days.
