|

I read in the Korean Times today that Korea will ban foreign porn sites. The stated reason was that some ppl had been posting porn pictures taken from these sites onto regular family sites like Korean yahoo. It seems like a weak rationale to me. What would be the real reason?
A. blame the foreigner is a fun game that never gets old
B. korean lawmakers (men) want to stop ppl from seeing "adult size" genitalia
C. nobody is watching asian men have sex anymore
go habs!

In fairness, it should be pointed out that much of the porn you can see on the internet is in fact illegal under Korean law, and would get you arrested if you tried to sell it at a newsstand.
In Canada, it is illegal to sell child pornography in a store, so most of us wouldn't have a problem with the government trying to ban websites that featured child pornography. In Korea, it is illegal to sell pornography showing pubic hair, so it makes a certain amount of sense that the government doesn't want people looking at it on-line.
I'm not defending Korea's standards here. Obviously, I think there's something a little bit off-kilter about Korean censors banning genitalia, while saying that rape scenes are okay. I'm just saying that this specific piece of legislation probably involves something other than just crass xenophobia. |

I'm not much of a porn person, so could care less about it actually being inaccessible. Real problem: when you ban porn you end up banning things like family planning, sexual dysfunction, etc., etc. In addition to free speech issues... |

Well assuming it goes as well as their ban on prostitution, political graft, traffic violations, building standards, school reform, sex abuse, illegal teachers, illegal aliens, drugs, etc etc etc etc I am sure we will never run out of porn.
I say, porn for everyone! |

as I've stated before, I live above one love motel and below another. My theory is that the ban on porn is a push by the love motel lobbists to boost their visitor numbers.
That, and the fact that korean cocks can only be measured in mm and they can use thimbles as a contraceptive. |

Aren't most foreign pornstars 'bald'? (I can't believe Korean pornographers haven't caught on to this loophole). |

What I should have said was that Korean pornographers can't show the genital area. I changed that in the second paragraph, but not the first.
The point still stands that much internet pornography is probably in violation of already-existing Korean law.

I was always puzzled by that, too. Also, I agree this is not necessarily xenophobic in this case as much as it is simply because prudishness runs deeply through many East Asian cultures.
Many contradictions to this prudishness, too. |

While on the one hand i'm glad i don't sit around playing with porn all day, one can't help but wonder what's next on their little "control freak" agenda?

Changed my mind. I'm not coming to Korea. |
For what it's worth, when I was going through customs this last time in Janurary, I had to fill out a form which asked if I was carrying any pornography. |

*N.B. At airports e.g. the "MAN" will scan & download your hard drives or laptops if so desired

Yes, if so desired. They will also check your bags, your pockets, and give you a strip search if so desired. But since no one has an inalienable right to enter another country, the question really isn't "should the man do these things" but rather "under what circumstances is it proper for the man to do these things, and when does it become abuse of power?" |
