Bah-ki-ba-lay !

I saw exactly four of them in the last five years here: one at my last job (just over a Chinese restaurant), one at my last apartment (just outside of it, in the stairwell), and two at a restaurant I have never returned to.

That's it.

But I don't live in one of the big cities.

It can go from non-existant to really problematic.

Haven't seen any co ckroaches, but I've seen a mouse (rat?) or two down by some of the outdoor fish markets, which really isn't surprising.

where are you lucky people working? And what type of housing are you getting?

I prefer to get an apt where it's non existent of course. I got enough friends that are already asking for freebies... hehehe

A teacher I knew in Daegu had an old shoebox apartment that was riddled with them ... they were relatively small, but numerous

Myself, when I was in Taejeon, had the odd one .... and they freaked the begeezers out of me ... it was like they were wearing army boots and would march across my floor on occasion ...

I think I bought every roach killer I could find ...

Totally disgusting !!!

I live around the corner from Cheongdam Station in Samsung-dong and encounter at least ten per day in this outrageously-priced apartment. The place is cleaned every other day yet the critters will not go away - bahstuds that they are...

Ditto - all the way down to the size of the little buggers. Heck, they are even crawling around the bathroom and the house is only three years old!

I've lived in two places in Korea that were severly infested. One was in Suji, my very first apartment in Korea. Not the welcome I was dreaming of. I wish they were more like the commercials where they would hide when I came home and turned the lights on, instead I would see them fall off of ledges when I was watching tv, scurry across the floor, end up in my water cup by my bed and everything else that was disgusting. One night alone when I finally got to killing them, I killed about 100 as they led a full scale assault on my place. As soon as the spraying started out they came from everywhere running across my ceiling, on the walls, out of the floor creases. An awful experience. Same thing happened in an apartment I lived at in Yongin, and again, killed about 100 in one assault. When I woke up one night as a roach ran across my head, that was the last straw.

What an amazing tale of bravery and diligence.

One of the larger ones I've seen in Korea did a little dance on my head a few weeks ago. That really blew.

Speaking of larger ones, the funniest one I've seen was in the place in Suji. Funny that when I started spraying he tried to get out like the other ones from behind the sink area through the crack separating the sink area from the back wall. Unfortunately for him he was too fat, only his head could fit and his one and a half inch long antennas. He died like that, and to this day I think he still remains entombed.

Go to the pharmacy and buy some Boric acid. You'll get a cube of stuff. Crush it up into power and mix it with water. So take this watery stuff and get a spoon and draw little lines where you think the roaches will go.

It will dry. Roaches will walk across it and it will stick to it's feet. When the roach grooms itself (sorta like a fly does) it will inject this lovely persistan chemical. Roach dies. The bonus is one of it's buddies will eat him and dies from the acid. Keep applying every few days and in a month or two you'll have no bugs.
