The veggie club is having its second meet-up this month this Sunday, the 25th, for dinner at the New Start Buffet in Gangnam. (links below) Please post here or PM me if you want to come -- you don't have to be vegetarian, just have a desire to meet some cool people and eat some good food! I'm flexible on the time for the dinner to start so just post whatever time is best for you and I'll try to make everyone happy.

Personally, since I have to catch a long bus ride, the earlier the better (I'd prefer lunches on Sundays - except in the summer - and dinners on Saturdays ...)

If it's gotta be dinner, 5pm is fine. From their website link (in "Hater depot's" post) it looks like they're open continuously from 11:30am till 8:30pm.

The Galbijim link locates it at Seollung Station (Green line?) exit #2.

Is there usually alcohol consumed at these things? (I'm hoping for a yes) And, do we need to rsvp to someone?

Most of the places we've gone to have been buffets, and I haven't noticed alcohol (probably because most are run by Seventh Day Adventist members...) Some of the restaurants we've gone to have beer and wine, but I don't recall seeing anyone with our group having more than a glass of wine

We did have a vegetarian cook-out at Namsam park, and there was definitely some beer at that gathering (since I'm the addictive type I just brought some cans of non-alcoholic malt liquor wth me ...

I think the place we're going to tomorrow is an SDA-run place (because its closed on Saturdays...) but the buffet should be very good - for around 8000 won. It's not strictly necessary to RSVP, but anyone interested should try to either post here that they're coming or PM "Hater Depot".

I just checked my email, and "Hater Depot" has confirmed the time as 5pm. So, we'll be meeting this Sunday at 5 at the Seoullung station (Green line 2) exit 2 . We'll probably wait a few minutes and head over to the New Start...

I have just got here, 5 days ago actually, and it would be great to meet some other people. I will be by myself though, is the vege group "clicky" or are newbies welcome?

I live at Yatap, do you have any idea how long it would take to get there. appartently it is the end of my line?

Thanks in advance

Jane

Looking at the subway map, it doesn't look very far away, but its eleven stops. So, using the two minutes a stop formula (very aproximate...) it would take about 22 minutes, but figure that it's about 30 minutes ...

I wouldn't call the veggie club "clicky" at all. There's usually a big turnover from gathering to gathering, and turnouts have ranged from as few as six to as many as seventeen. Most people that come aren't strict vegetarians (if they are at all...) so it's not cliquey in that respect ...

"Hater Depot", the club president, is a mellow, cool Cool type guy who usually shows up with his Japanese (teacher) girl friend (if he shows up at all... Razz ) Most members aren't registered to post on these forums. It would be better, I think, if more people with an interest in vegetarianism actively participlated on these threads to generate more ideas and enthusiasm...

A good time was had by all.. lots of new people came. The restaurant itself had a very nice atmosphere but I have to say, the other buffets I've been to had a better spread.

And we decided to have another barbecue in April. Assa!

It was nice (and I liked the place - though much of the food was underspiced ...)

There was disturbing news, however: "Hater Depot" - the veggie club's most successful president - announced that he'll be leaving Korea next month. The vegetarian "barbecue" in April will be more-or-less his going away party...

I think we should definitely meet at least once before then - maybe at the SM Ching hai with their nice outdoor tables.

Hopefully, one of the new people can follow in "Hater Depot's" footsteps (except for the time he slipped on ice and sprained his ankle... Crying or Very sad ) and volunteer to be the next veggie club president.

I can fill-in and help with organizing when needed, but ideally someone reliable with good people and organizational skills and an interest in promoting vegetarianism will emerge to continue the tradition of great veggie club leaders (I've already been there, done that... Cool )

Shite!
Well, I am somewhat new to Korea (4 month) and have no knowledge of Korean, but I'd love to help out with anything necessary!
