What can we expect in the terms of asking for more money after one year at a Hagwan?

It would depend on where you work. The best bet is to apply for new jobs with starting salaries higher than what you are currently getting.

In many cases that would be your best bet, especially if you were recruited while not in Korea and have no teaching experience. If that is the case then if the school had wanted to pay more for more experience they wouldn't have hired you. Most of the best jobs are filled through word of mouth...

Back in 1999, I was making, sorry about bragging, a cool 1.4 million won/month at my hagwon.

My next job in 2000, I jumped up to 2.1 million. Since then, salaries have basically stayed frozen... meaning you actual take a pay cut each year due to inflation.

Luckily, I moved on to better things. ... but, the most I made at a hagwon was about 2.3(basic, not including overtime).

Fandeath has been down and abandoned for about 3 years.. It was flooded with too many death threats and promises to stick things into my body.

Anyway, back on topic...

Keep in mind that if a teacher renews at a school, the school is saving money by not paying a recruiter 1.0-1.5 million for a new teacher.
When they up your salary 100,000 a month, they are actually losing nothing.

Speaking of renewing with a school, in your experience, how long does the school allow you to go home before they want you back in the classroom? In other words, if our contract is up at the beginning of January and we want to come back mid February, what are the odds of our school accommodating us?

It depends on the hagwon. Most do not want to "give" you any break...you got to demand it.

Are there other teachers to cover your classes?

Remember, it is a business first. They need a Native Speaker in the classroom.

I think you need to negotiate how much time break you need. They will fight to make it as short as possible, you just got to stand firm.

Okay, now you made me really curious. Please put up a "hate mail" section there. Smile

Thanks for the pointers. I am not sure how covering our classes would work out. I know we will stand firm on what we want and if they can't give us what we want, I don't think finding another job will be too difficult.

It depends on how far you bend over or get down on yr knees

salary increases exponentially with improvement of fellatio technique

upon hagwon owner

deep-throat = slightly higher pay

I thought if you bent over, they'll screw and sodomize you. Then they would treat you like a *beep*.
