Then again...I'll never buy a small-name MP3 player again. Man, my made in Korea "Stormblue" player bites big-time.

Naw big daddy. I don't have the money or the time to do something like that. However, I have read a lot about PC stuff, and, it is rare for someone to build a monster PC and brag about, "yeah man, hey! I just bought that monster Samsung memory". HAHAHHAHAHAHA Laughing

Back to PC products. THis is the same situation here. Two identical GPU's operate identically, but, which one will out last the other? My money is on the company (BFG, XFX, EVGA) that focuses only on Graphics Cards and not on cars, washing machines, computers, superconductors, hair dryers, toothbrushes, etc. (Samsung).

Your other example was Corsair RAM which is essentially Samsung rebranded RAM which somewhat works against your stated belief and I now see you are no longer citing.

Protip: BFG also uses Samsung RAM in their graphic cards has for a number of years. How can you honestly state that Samsung is horrid yet use products which rely on them in citing how much better than Samsung they are?

Regardless, you aren't bringing up anything to support your claim. You are tossing together a lovely story of "what ifs" and "maybe thens" without any actual support or even anecdotal stories.

Hell, we could spin it the other way and say that a company that focuses on a single product line (eg: graphic cards) has less to lose from a shoddy run because they are a smaller company. So now where does that leave us?

Zalman is a Korean Brand and it is HIGHLY recommended by enthusiasts everywhere in the world.

And I did state this in an earlier post. Zalman, IMO, is great and top notch when it comes to coolers (I have one on my E6600 right now). Very Happy

Bullshi3t Zalman is overpriced garbage worse the samsung AND NO enthusiast (True one (True enthusiasts use water or phase)) would ever recommend one for anything but stock cooling replacment.

I had their heatsinks and I thought they were trash. Friend ranted and raved about it and they couldn't even compete with my 1 year old Thermalright heatsink.

Samsung stuff that has broken on me.

My laptop slim drive only after 8 days of owning it. I requested a Hitachi instead No probs.
2 DVD boxes.
1 CD-Rom
MANY hard drives. At least 4. (Only other brand worse was Maxtor)
Many Samsung LCD had dead pixels or they didn't work right at all. I had 4 RMA's.
2 Flashdisk which used Samsung chips.

The only thing that hasn't gone wrong with samsung is RAM.

This is all personal experience .. In my x-IT pro career I just avoided Samsung and Maxtor and WD (BB series) entirely because they were just horid QA junk. Had to many failures and to many customers bitching about stuf dying.

My school is full of Samsung computers and at least once a week one of them will DIE or the CDrom will cease to function.

Ok Gord, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. You state that I am not citing, well, where are your citation? Where (as I do not have the time nor the inclination to do so) does it say that BFG uses Samsung ram? Show me. You say CORSAIR is rebranded RAM? Show me. You are making a lot profound statements without any type of credible source to back it up. I'm not trying to be an A$$$, please do not think so. But, if you want citations from me, shouldn't you, too, be held to the same standard? So, let's see them?

Gord,

I am not citing anymore because I am writing a paper while I do this. If I get the time, I'll look up some stuff. for you.

"I have a 7900GTX from BFG. What is the name of the manufacturer of the RAM that is on the card. Also, is that manufacturer the same manufacturer that makes all of the RAM for BFG?

Thanks,
Ralph"

The email I just sent BFG. I am sure we will have an answer soon as trying to fish for it on the net is proving to be quite cumbersome.

Are you buying all your Samsung stuff from the same shady dealer in Yongsan?

The reason I ask is if all this stuff is coming from the same dealer then maybe its not Samsung thats the problem.

You just have to type in BFG SAMSUNG DDR2 or DDR3 and you get a bunch of press releases and review sites talking about how they've been working together for years.

Example:

http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=ddr2comparo&page=4

"Like all other 6800GT cards, the BFG 6800GT OC features 256 MB of Samsung G-DDR3..."

Or your beloved 7900GTX:

http://www.rage3d.com/reviews/video/nvidia8800/index.php?p=3

"Around the GPU are arrayed the Samsung GDDR3 memory modules rated for 1.1ns (900MHz), 12 of them on the GTX and 10 on the GTS."

As for Corsair, here's a link from a couple years back when they first started using Samsung memory modules (and even made mention of how they were faster than what Corsair had been offering):

http://www.ipkonfig.com/cms/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=136&Itemid=29

Even now, many of their products as essentially rebranded Samsung products and clearly marketed as such:

http://409bruce.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68_69&products_id=341

And so on and so on.

ok. So, I concede. You are correct and have proven so in that Samsung sells their modules to BFG. However, now bear with me for a second, That is a small piece of the larger pie.

Why does one prefer one brand over another? Do you have a preference regarding video cards, CPU's, M/B's, or any other computer part? If you do, ask yourself....why?

You kind of sealed my point. I think for you its mostly about bragging rights, not getting the best bang for your buck. You seem to get a sense of pride about using top name manufacturers...and that's not a bad thing, just not everyone's bag.

As I said, I'm an economy component buyer and I haven't had any trouble with computer components branded by Korean manufacturers. They usually back their products with great A/S service, too. I believe they would match head for head with any other big-brand product...

I just wouldn't recommend buying the absolute cheapest thing on the market...could be a little iffy...and probably a Chinese brand.

I see your point, truly I do. Do I like bragging about what I have...eh...a little, though, only do it with the people on here whom I have already met (demo, super, beaver, etc.).

But......I will say this:

I bought the things I bought for several reasons:

1 - I read up and liked that BFG overclocked (stock) their stuff and supported it with a lifetime warranty (does Evertop do that? anyone? I'm curious to know. I think this is standard among most GC makers).

2 - Intel Core 2 duo - well - it was one of the best at the time.

3-Memory - nothing but great reviews.

So, I went with what has proven to be reliable and worth the money. Do I have a bad assss mamaa jamma? Sure. In roughly 6 or 7 months time, I am sure someone else on here will have surpassed me.

Seriously, who gets a new toy and doesn't like to brag about it? LIke I said, I go with big names because they have proven to be reliable over and over again. I see it like this:

If I am going to spend the money, then I want something that I KNOW is reliable. Having read about BFG, Intel, and CORSAIR, well, you know the rest.

P.S. Can you really dispute my remark: "yeah man, hey! I just bought that monster Samsung memory".

Rolling Eyes

When you have some friends that are senior engineers for Samsung then roll your eyes buddy. Sony buys their panels from Samsung. Lg/Philips panels are better. Iaudio mp3/pmp players are considered the best from Korea.

Oh wow..I guess when my close friend told me that the new Nissan GTR would look like a Porsche or when another friend tells me that Apple would bring back the Newton PDA, I guess both should be right considering that one works at Nissan headquarters and the other at Apple. Rolling Eyes

There is a joint venture between Sony and Samsung, both combine their resources to produce LCD panels. Better get some new friends. Rolling Eyes

hmmm, I got a response from BFG. Check this out:

Ralph Sabio,
We use different RAM for each card. We do not have that information on file here.

Thank you,

Yes, I meant CL and not CLB. Embarassed Sorry about that!

Do you want to know if your BFG has "inferior" Samsung chips on it? Just pop out the heatsink and take a look at the memory chips. I think you will find something like this...

Furthermore, couple of years ago Samsung made some of the fastest and most looked after memory chips. Take a look over HERE and see how many manufacturers use Samsung's chips.

(NOTICE: No, I am not working for Samsung. Razz )
