This has happened twice now. I've had recruiters propose the following:
You (teacher) open a bank account, and give the bank account book to us (the recruiter), and your password. The school we recruited you to work in will pay into your bank account, and then we will pay you from this bank account.
It seems there are some fools out there who have agreed to this arrangement. DO NOT DO IT!!!!!
The bank account could be used for various illegal activities, and in whose name is the account YOURS!!!
If you have been foolish enough to do this, go close the account NOW!

You don't need passwords to deposit money into accounts.

"Give me your password."
"Give me your passport."
"Give me your original diploma."
"Give me your first born."

These are things only shady businesses say.

Sounds to me like you may be gettin hooped here son...seriously, seriously hooped.

I'm not sure I'd bother staying until the end for your "year end severance" (unless you have a few years banked)

Surely the tax office must be able to recognise that something funny's going on when a foreign teacher is earning 7 million a month. Man, these civil servants hate to do their jobs!

I'm doing this now. What kind of illegal activities can the account be used for? The school puts money into this account, the recruiting company takes it and puts my salary into another account that's under my control.

It is illegal for them to do this- I called the Ministry of Labor about it and they told me I could file a complaint which would incite a formal investigation. In the end I decided it not worth the sour grapes it would cause between my employer and I.

I'm going to be watching the account, and if they try to tax me for more than my salary or do anything that looks shady with it, I'll file that complaint. But if everything runs smoothly, what's the harm?

Tax 3.3%
Medical 2.75%
Pension 4.5%
Total: 10.55%
So are you contributing 10.55% of 7MIL or your agreed salary?
Either way, something has gotta be amiss with one of these.
If 7MIL goes into your account, for work you have done, are you not required to pay the percentage on that amount?
I have no idea how it all works but I am sure Alabamaman etc. will know the law on this.
There has to be some way around it because so many places are now doing it.

As I've posted multiple times, get a recipt for the "management fees" you are paying the management company and they are a deductable business expense.... That fixes your tax problem (and pretty much all the rest of them too).... Are you going to complain about bigger pension? And all that other stuff comes out of the management company's portion anyway....

This is only an issue if you don't trust your recruiter.... And yes, many of them aren't worth trusting, but you can minimize by keeping an eye on the account.... Keep the bankbook and let them have the ATM card... Then you can run the book occasionally and cancel the card if there is a problem....

Well, if you stay longer than a year and file a tax return or if you change or get another job the tax departmant will be looking for the taxes you didn't pay on the whole amount depsoited into your bank account. You are the one legally responsible for it as it's you bank account. They won't care what you tell them, it's your responsibility.

It's a tax avoidance scam that has been around a while now.
