| I am wondering if anyone has ever been sent on a visa run and stayed an extra few days at their own expense? I really would like to spend a total of 5 days in Osaka, discussed this with a prospective employer at the interview stages, first interview the guy said it wouldnt be a problem, second interview with head honcho said I need to sign now then in a month do the visa run but it could only be for 2 days. I was always planning on spending around 5 days when I leave my current hellhole, don't want to fly to japan for a holiday then come back for a day then go on a visa run! |

I have done that before
I went to Thailand on my last visa run. I took a week vacation attached to my visa run. The school paid for the visa costs, the airfare and one night hotel fee in Bangkok. They had no issues with it because there was enough time until my classes started up at the new school.
I covered all the extra costs of the trip.
Check your schedule to see if there is enough time for an extended stay in Osaka. Make sure that the extra time does not clash with your new schools start date. If there is no time problem then go. They can't say no to you.
They can only refuse if you need to be at school for classes during the time you want to be in Osaka. |

Arrange your start date to be 5 days later. Take your holiday in Japan and get your visa at the same time.
Your boss wanting you to work a month and then just do the 2 day run is crap. Pick a new hakwon. |

| no there's no working for a month then doing the visa, the way the guy explained it, once i have the visa Im technically able to start working immediately for them, and any vacation time i have is considered vacation time from the new job... sounded a bit sus, but I want to work for this place! |

You can have your visa and sit for 3 months in Japan and it won't make any difference to your visa.
Your boss is not being entirely honest and he probably doesn't want you to get away AND he is probably desperate for a teacher.
Tell him there are lots of jobs and it's your way or NO WAY. .....
AND STICK TO IT.
If you bend you kiss it goodbye. If you are firm you will get it because there is no way he can replace you. Not enough people wanting to come to Korea and he knows it. |
