It's not the usual kind, but they are focusing on the 'green card' issue that is mostly in the migrant worker community. ie., foreigners who are married to a Korean for the purpose of gaining a working visa. The tip-off made its way to some hogwan associations, who in turn, disseminated the heads-up to their members. Although no one is sure how they are going about this, some are assuming that hagwons might be visited. I have zero idea on how they will be able to ascertain whether an F2 teacher married for legit reasons or not. Confused

Anyways, this one is not being manned by immigration, but the police. Which means that it might go down as effective as the 'no using the cellphone while driving' crackdowns, etc...If both immigration and police are going out and about, then its usually pretty thorough ones, like the ones that we've seen in the summers of past.

However, if they show up and ask to see your ARC and see that you are not married to a Korean, but are still moonlighting from somewhere else or on a tourist visa, it'd be anyone's guess whether or not their eyebrows get raised enough to do something or phone immigration and ask questions. Hence why this heads up holds some merit.

As for regular crackdowns involving immigration, this is still supposed to be a year that they are focusing on the illegal Chinese, but lord knows things have been known to change.

Nevertheless, FYI.

There is no real way to tell if a marriage is legit or not.

So I should put a photo of my wife in my wallet? Make sure I wear my wedding band? Bring a packed lunch consisting of rice, fish and kimchi, and ensure my clothes have been amply treated with fabric softner? What, what do I do? Where do they draw the line between shackled and blatant bachelorhood...? I have no idea... Crying or Very sad

So... I wonder how they expect to actually check.

(on a side note, when setting up my company I had the local tax office come to my Apt. to make sure I was really living there and married. When we said 'hey, that's Immi's job', they simply said 'do you want the busiess license or not?')

I assumed they wouldn't be checking to see if I was married, but rather, if I was really married. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

They would be looking for teachers working without a degree hence the police and not immigration doing the investigation.

If you get married you get your F2 so there is no scrutiny by immigration to veryify that you are qualified to teach.

This is following on the heels of the bust of a number of KOREAN and F2 / F4 teachers in Seoul who had fake degrees.
