I'm not surprised by it. As a matter of fact, I'm sure the figure is much higher, estimates like these tending to be on the conservative side. I am, however, disappointed that the officials in question are not similarly addressing the issue of foreign prostitutes in Korea. Of course, the issue has been raised but I don't recall the same efforts involved.

The U.S. authorities recently arrested a large number of Korean prostitutes across the country.

Early this month, 33 Korean women were arrested on prostitution charges in Waterbury, Connecticut.

In June last year, the U.S. federal authorities broke up two criminal syndicates suspected of importing hundreds of Korean women to work at brothels in Los Angeles and San Francisco, serving mainly Korean men in the areas. Police arrested 42 handlers and 150 female prostitutes.

About 90 percent of the 70-80 prostitutes arrested each month by the Los Angeles Police Department are Korean women.
