What happens in the situation where the boss goes with you to immigration, signs a paper (releasing me from the contract) and I am told by the immi official that I can not cancel the visa there or I would have to leave the country immediatly, and I will not have to turn in my ARC and get an exit order then and there as exit orders are only given if you finish the contract. They said I would be legally able to stay in-country until my original visa expired...seemed kinda strange after reading up on the process on here.

It seems you could get five different answers from five different officials.

So, I have my ARC. My boss has released me from the contract. I wasn't given any specific time to leave the country (just before the original visa expires). Am I ok to stay and look for another job?

You can't change jobs as the visa sponsor is different. You may be screwed until the visa expires, but I'll leave that verification up to someone else who's dealt with it. Good luck.

I guess the immi guy was being nice to you, but technically its illegal. Also, to get another job, your visa will have to be cancelled by your boss (requirin another trip to immi where they will stamp your visa in your passport as cancelled). I think yo uare OK to look for another job, just be aware whats coming up when you find one.

So, what happens if I leave for Japan...turn in my ARC to immigration on the way out...and then return? My visa will still techinically be going as far as Immi is concerned? I knew something was wrong. Even mentioned to the immi guy tha I wanted the exit order stamped in my passport (to which he claimed they don't give them unless you finished you contract). I may have to contact the Busan immigration now that I've relocated.

Tomorrow, call your immigration office, give them your ARC number, and ask for your status. Once you know that, then you can plan your next step.

sounds like a plan...will do.

Should I call the immigration office in the place I used to live or where I am now...or does it matter?
