Mine have gone down almost all week. Luckily, most are dividend paying stocks and if the stock is down ex-dividend, it will just buy more shares.

Sold almost all of them over a month ago when the market peaked.

Although I find stocks a big gamble and would rather buy funds or bonds, or invest in an IRA, what are some on-line trading portals that you use?

On that note. Which dividend paying stocks do you have?

I use Sharebuilder.

www.sharebuilder.com

You can buy stocks for as little as $4 per trade and reinvest the dividends.

My account is an IRA , as you can choose a regular, custodial or IRA.

I have Citicorp, Pfizer drug and LG Phillips.

Citicorp and Pfizer pay dividends. ( over 4%)

Stocks are back to where they were at the beginning of the year. If we have a couple of good days, you'll have lost the benefits of selling a peak. Trying to time the markets rarely works in the long run.

4%. Bah. I prefer my 15% dividends, even if it is a flaky stock.

This

BTW, I'm unsure of how the Canadian trust law changes will effect the dividend. It took a big dive when the changes were announced, so I assume it won't be good, although it won't be for a few years.

No kidding, I would like my portfolio to be in tact when I retire. The only thing I can think of paying that high of return is a REIT, or a Real Estate Investment Trust when real estate prices are in a downturn, which we are going into now.

Stocks on the Dow 30 are boring, but they go up over time , pay a decent dividend, and will be there when you retire. We used to call em widow and orphan stocks, but they perform well in a long term plan.

I know...Have you thought for a second that maybe I was waiting for the stock to peak for a couple weeks before invested into something that is far more lucrative? (which is what I did).

well one stock i have is about to shoot up tomorrow due to a successful FDA hearing today. The other stock i have (obviously i'm not invested heavily right now) is down like 20% since I bought it earlier this year.

I was stupid. I saw an economist cover, "Is India overheating?" What stock of mine has tanked? Tata motors. When did it tank? A week or so after that cover story. There is nothing wrong with tata (it is profitable, doing well, etc), but all this negative press about India's economy overall is dragging Tata down. I have learned my lesson in investing in emerging market companies.

I just took a look at Tata and they do seem to be doing well financially. Keep that one for 10 years and it'll probably be worth quite a bit.

I am going to look at that stock too. They say something like, buy the company , not the stock. Which means, if the fundamentals of the company do not change after you purchase the stock, it doesn't matter if the share price goes down. They cited a case where a guy sold off his Microsoft after it went down 25% from what he bought at , only to rise up 1000 or more percent after he sold it.

Is Tata an ADR?
