Hello One and All,

I'm trying to find a job in Korea and I am applying for everything on Dave's job boards. I want to arrive in Korea next month.

Does anyone out there know of any univ. jobs going? Or failing that any good public school gigs? I want to live in Seoul.

I don't have a Masters but I do have univ. xp + pretty good resume (+ TESOL cert. for what it's worth). Any kind of univ. would do (as long as they cross my palm with silver).

Would be grateful for any helpful PMs along these lines. Cheers.

Universities do the bulk of their hiring in Jan for the new term start on March 2. They do occasionally hire in June/July for the fall term.

Your chance of landing a uni job from abroad, without a Master's, in the middle of the term is about the same as a snowball in hades. Uni jobs are all about connections and you don't have any.

There are lots of public school positions open but not likely many in Seoul until the SMOE starts their big recruiting push in June for August starts.

For public positions in Gyeonggi province (Seoul satellite cities and suburbs) you might want to contact people like worknplay.

Good luck dude.

Honestly, you may want to start out with a public school.

I've done both. I did half of the work for almost the same money (more there, actually) at the public school.

The trade-off is vacation, but these days unis are turning into unigwons and expecting you to teach during your vacation anyway....

Oh, and you can try worknplay, but I'd suggest www.korvia.com , because it's where Ann and Joyce from Worknplay left to (they started their own company). They hire for public schools.

I'm wondering about the frequency of job ads/job availability at uni's for the September term also, as I'm hoping to teach at a uni in September. I PM'd someone recently and what they said sounded a bit different than occasional hiring for the fall term: they said around mid-April the uni's will start posting ads for September jobs and the ads will run through the summer. No?

Thx .... mep

Well, good luck, but the competition is usually high for Uni jobs. If you are in the country, you have a decent chance. If you are applying from outside, you have almost no chance unless you have a Phd or a masters and a lot of Uni experience.

I am applying from out of the country. But yes, I do have a PhD (English lit.) and lots of university experience (nothing glorified -- a lot of adjunct work in the U.S., including ESL, and a couple years at uni's in China).

Where would you put my chances? And what's the case with the amount of jobs available/advertised for September? Do they just occasionally hire in June/July, or will there be ads running from May through July?

Thx .... mep

Are most Uni jobs posted here on Dave's? I've heard that sometimes the work n'play site is good, Uni sites themselves (if they have a decent website.) Any other suggestions for where to find these Uni job postings when they start? Thanx... (I'm already working in Korea, and my contract is up in Sept.)

With those qualifications, your chances are pretty good, even though you are applying from overseas. A lot of places still want to see you before they hire you. But, the Phd changes everything. You shouldn't have any problems.
