Suddenly tricked into downloading a Win update, and hit with a WGA attack since my Korean WinXP is apparently not genuine (I'm not surprised...Yongsan). Do I pretty much just have to pony up the cash to go legit?

That update has been trying to install itself on my computer for a month. Even though my copy is legit, I prefer not to give MS any more access to my computer than I have to. The update description even says that it will identify pirated software and then hit you with reminder popups to buy a legit version and report the people who sold it to you. Why would anyone want that on their computer?

Increasinly amounts of software from MS won't run unless the O/S has been verified as legit. IE7, for example, requires a verified system.

doesn't exactly help him out now. PLus adds a big learning curve that not everyone is willing to take.

Yeah, I'd love to go Linux, but I'm afraid I haven't the competence nor the time at the moment. Some day though (unless I go Mac first).
