Western female looking for dance partner and/or dance instructor for Latin and/or ballroom. My skills range from amateur to advanced (depends on the dance).
I am particularly interested in a practice/ hanging out partner for salsa, tango, swing, cha-cha. Please pm if you are interested.
I am also looking for a ballroom instructor to brush up on my standard dances. Please pm if you know of someone who is qualified.
Finally, trying to find English language tango/dancesports classes. Feel free to post if you know of any in the greater Seoul area.
Thanks!!

I've been a big fan of dancesport for years, and Korea has no shortage of studios to learn. They also hold competitions that I've gone to plenty of, but the popularity has waned a bit after taking off in 2000 with the premiere of the Japanese hit movie "Shall We Dance."
Just look for signs saying "댄스스포츠" as studios abound. Most do not offer instruction in English, but hey, just like martial arts, you can still learn it despite the language barrier.
Good luck. |

Bundang could work, especially if the place is on a bus line. |

Are you also offering yourself out as a teacher? |

are you american? if you are, american dances and international are quite different, even with the same names. i am not an expert, but i know enough. i was more than confused when i went to a dance party (if that is the right word) i had a lot of trouble as they had a lot different footwork, moves, leads, everything. again, i am not the greatest dancer, but i had a lot more trouble than i ever had with an american partner. |

To komichi.....
I am not really offering myself out as a teacher (though I am familiar enough with at least a few of the dances to teach them).
I would be willing though to share my knowledge with a potential partner.
Additionally, it would be nice to have a little group of people of like interest (beginners-advanced) to go to the classes/clubs with. So... if you have an interest.. shoot me an email.
Cheers

To Antoniothegreat......
You are right. The Amercian and International styles are different. I am familiar with both and done trainning in both though I sometimes do not really remember which is which. Takes me only a few seconds to get into step.
At this point, I will settle either/both because the skills/training are for the most part transferable, and for me, the enjoyment and excercise is comparable.
Happy dancing!! |

I have two colleagues (female) who regularly go salsa dancing in Seoul. Where is the place in Bundang? They might try it.
They said they could suggest classes/teachers who teach in Korean, if you decide to try it.
Also, check out this website and see if anything interests you: http://www.youcandancekorea.com/ It may not be advanced enough for you.
Happy dancing! |

Macando in Hong-dae is the place for Latin dance. That place gets packed.
Plus, there's this place in Apgujeong. I can't remember the name right now.
By the way, I think you ought to be adventurous and try out anything (classes or whatever), even without the English language. Dance is a kind of language. You really don't need the spoken word when someone is simultaneously physically showing you what they are saying. |

I have a little experience in cha-cha-cha, tango, rhumba and I'll probably be learning merengue soon too. I'll be in Seoul towards the end of May and I'd love to keep up on my dances. |
