Buddha boy plans live burial: report

Quote:
KATHMANDU: Ram Bahadur Bomjan Nepals Buddha Boy whose followers claim he has meditated without food or water is back in the news with media reports suggesting that he plans to be buried alive while meditating.

According to reports, his followers have already dug up an eight-foot deep trench in which Bomjan plans to descend. The trench will be then filled.
Asian religious traditions narrate tales of holy men being buried alive, braving extreme heat or cold and subjecting the body to other torments in order to master the senses and attain salvation.

All I can think: this kid has retained David Blaine's agent.

This should be interesting. In Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramhansa Yogananda wrote about people who could do these sorts of things. And there are other seemingly credible accounts.

Apparently, for those who have attained a certain level, these things are not especially difficult. Normally, they are not done as stunts, but as a way of focusing consciousness on the meditative state.

There is a famous photo of some yogi standing on his head with his head buried in the sidewalk as a man in a suit walks by, barely noticing. Presumably, the yogi was trying to tell us something.

On the other hand, there have always been the fakers, or fakirs, as they were originally called, who resorted to tricks or illusions.

David Blaine was preparing to do the "buried alive" stunt, I believe. I don't know if he's going to go through with that. His stunts have been pretty big failures as of late.

Anyway, without proper controls, there's no way to tell if the boy is the real thing or just another in a long line of fakes.
