There is less space for people on Saturday so tickets are at a premium. Get there early if you want to get in. Tonight there will be more room for dancing at DGBD/Drug.

How early can I buy tickets on Saturday? I can't make it tonight and I'm worried it'll sell out. And I am needing me some ska.

Cheers.

All I can say is show up, and if you don't make it in don't go too far. There might be an afterparty.

My friend saw an ad somewhere for the afterparty.. At a different venue though, right? Any details on that (ie, where, who's playing, etc), or is it a wait-and-see kind of thing?

Oh this sounds really good...

I heard of the Slackers before but didn't really pay much attention to their music for some odd reason, now I'm here in Korea and I've rediscovered them and their awsome tunes.

Can't wait to see them tomorrow Smile.

What about the afterparty??

I just picked up the album. Great stuff! I wasn't expecting such an old school feel...what a great vibe. I can't decide...do I break out a mod suit or do I break about some Jamaican threads? Getting more and more stoked on this show.

Some of their stuff is definitely homaging back to traditional Jamaican ska, and dancehall, some stuff reminds me of the Specials. Then out of nowhere came an amazing dub song.

Racetraitor: you gonna be passing out the green jesus for this show?? hahaha

what album did you pick up? i am desperately trying to find Slackness http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slackness_(album) by t Chris Murray and The Slackers but it seems to be out of print (can't find it anywhere except on ebay Japan).[/url]

Well...just got back from dgdb....awesome show! Haven't had that much fun at a gig for a long while. Thank you Racetraitor for sorting that out...how did you get them to come play here? (and also, did you by chance have anything to do with running Tom's bar up at waedae?)
anyway...for anyone thinking of going to Skunk Hell tomorrow, i heartily recommend it (I'll be making my way up there again, for sure)
only regret of the night...got there too late to see suckstuff...ah well, can't have it all...

The show starts tonight at 6:30. Do not come late. (No, I've never been involved in any Tom's Bar, just Skunk and DGBD.) The Slackers actually had the idea to come here because another foreign girl living in Korea posted on their website there's a huge ska scene in Korea. Well not really so I tried to rally the troops with those soul allnighters. Dave Hillyard found the Skunk Hell website where my e-mail is listed and contacted me saying he wanted to play.

Here are some pictures from yesterday.

Vic Ruggiero received a healthy cheque for his endorsement of a Korean underwear brand.

The band was all excited when they saw this gate.

We went record shopping and found a ton of cool old '60s Korean records.

Soundcheck

Suck Stuff opened the show.

This guy escaped the army to see the show.

Kingston Rudieska were the second openers.

The Slackers

By the way, where's that thread about what foreign musicians do when they're in Korea? Because the Slackers went sightseeing in Dongdaemoon, found some great records, and couldn't buy because they were too expensive. That's our entry.

Last night was a nearly flawless show. All three bands were great! People had a great time dancing about to some wickedly good music. If you weren't there then you really missed out. There is a huge underground music scene here and if you get out and look into it, your stay in Korea will be that much more fulfilling.

Go tonight to SkunkHell and go early. Thanks again RT for organising a fewkin' good time.

Well the flaw of the DGBD show was getting them from the venue back to their hotel. I split responsibility with the weather for raining. It was a real clusterfuck (which is cleaner than telling nazi punks to *beep* off).

The Skunk Hell show was flawless from a promoter's perspective, although there wasn't enough room to move inside.

I'm staying up tonight to pick them up at their hostel tomorrow morning (7am) and take them to the airport.

really one of the best shows i've seen in a long time.

highlights:

-packed show, but very few people getting sand in their vag about pushing.
-lots of dancing.
-smiling faces.
-rux - seriously, how come they aren't the biggest band in korea? it makes little sense.
-slackers playing. great stage presence. incredible players, like reaaaaally damn good musicians, folks.

my anti-ska racism has been somewhat softened and i may start exploring a little more after seeing this band. thanks jon.

Honestly I could point you toward some of the bands that would sell you and explain how to avoid all the masses of terrible ska bands.
