Did that in a bar. Wind blew it out of my hand. Stepped on it. Realized what I had done. Then quietly picked it up whilst no one noticed. I was also surrounded by hookers and drug dealers at the time. But phew, wouldn't want to do anything illegal there. |

I was thinking that exact same thing.
Personally, I thnk the punishment is too harsh.
A year would fit better in my opinion. |

Does someone have too much time on his hands?? Still, you're dead right. 10 years for grafitti is outrageous, and I hope there's some serious repercussions for Thailand as a result.
Thailand's the only country I've been in where you have to stand up in a cinema, before the movie, while the national anthem is accompanied by pictures of the king. I got to see him gracing his loyal subjects with a motorcade. The Thais take it pretty seriously. Lots of wai-ing going on. |

| I wonder what the king himself thinks about this crime and sentence. If he's at all cool he would agree 10 years is just not right. I wonder if he could change the sentence? |

How much time would the average American military veteran think a hippie should get for burning an American flag? How much time would a Jewish Canadian think a neo-nazi punk should get in jail for spray painting a swastika on a Jewish tomb stone?
Last year congress was trying to pass yet another flag burning amendment. What would the legal penalties have been for that?

Yesterday's IHT says that the king thinks the lese majeste laws are to strict. The article cites a 2005 speech, where the king says he shouldn't be immune from criticism, and he wouldn't allow anyone to go to jail for criticising him. "If they get sent to prison, I pardon them". |

I can verify this. The King pardoned him, and he got deported back to Switzerland.
As someone who's lived in Thailand some time back, I can vouch for the King being a nice guy. Whatever else other people may say, he's not the cause of problems in the country. Without his leadership, Thailand would be going to hell in a handbasket. |

That statement, if you lived in Thailand, could get you thrown in jail. That's just crazy! |
