If you've taken lessons with her before for more than a month, please tell me...is she worth it?
I've had two lessons with her ($30 for 1 hour), and I have to say that I've gone anywhere from being unimpressed to down-right frustrated with her teaching style.
Like, I can't imagine having been an absolute music beginner with her. Luckily I was in band for 10 years(trombone) and practiced a little Bass, but she acts like just because I can read notes that I can practically do everything else my self. In lessons she barely checks my hand positions, throws a ton of new expressions at me (in just passable english---lute note? lute no...ooohhh...ROOT note), and not only that but charges me like 4-8k won for lesson books that she could have just frakkin' copied herself for about chonun.
So my question is, is she just doing this because I have a music past, or is she much easier on absolute beginners? If you've had her before, did you improve a lot? Did you really learn piano?
Also, *is* she the only game in town? Seems like it, but if anyone has a line on some really good teachers please let me know. |

| Are you interested mostly in keyboard skills (knowing your way around a piano) or do you have an ambition to really play? In other words, do you just want to know about choridng and such, or are you also interested in attack, posture, arm weight, i.e. really playing a piano? |

I don't think she's giving hj's on the side. I just don't think she's a good teacher. I've actually taken music lessons in Korea before--the instructor at my school was giving lessons for free to the teachers and he suffered from the same thing--just because we knew a few notes, he thought it was fine to rush us through 10 pages then just tell us to go home and practice.
Difference was, that was free, and this is not. If I'm paying $30...friggin' baby me. Assume I don't know jack sh--. |

How about this? Get a university student majoring in piano to give you lessons in return for English. Sounds like the teacher is indeed lame and NOT worth $30 an hour. |

While that is indeed a perfectly fine idea, that's something I'll use as a last resort. I really wanted this to be my hobby and something separate from my job. |

| Go to All that Jazz in Itaewon, check out a few sets, and ask the pianists if they give lessons. My friend took lessons from an American pianist who used to play there regularly. I think that he's since left the country, but you may be able to find an English-speaking Korean or another foreigner... |

Apparently an ad in the british classifieds "Pram for sale" means much the same as " I'm a piano teacher" does here. She might be pis*ed at you for actually taking it literally, hence the lousy lessons. |

ahahaha. Ya know, I was being so cynical in the prostitution thread, but I guess I'm being willfully naive here. I really want to think that she's just a crap teacher, but, for someone charging $30 an hour, she really friggin' blase` about the whole ordeal...echh...when I go to her studio she has bibles sitting around and she uses some gospel music as a lesson, but, in this country, nothing prostitution related surprises me anymore |

While that is indeed a perfectly fine idea, that's something I'll use as a last resort. I really wanted this to be my hobby and something separate from my job. |
You know, perhaps the English lesson can come DURING the piano lesson since both of you will speak English. |
