Here we go again.. Another religious disrespect is spreading protest around the world.

A New York gallery has angered a US Catholic group with its decision to exhibit a milk chocolate sculpture of Jesus Christ.
The six-foot (1.8m) sculpture, entitled "My Sweet Lord", depicts Jesus Christ naked on the cross.
Catholic League head Bill Donohue called it "one of the worst assaults on Christian sensibilities ever".
The sculpture, by artist Cosimo Cavallaro, will be displayed from Monday at Manhattan's Lab Gallery.
The Catholic League, which describes itself as the nation's largest Catholic civil rights organisation, also criticised the timing of the exhibition.
"The fact that they chose Holy Week shows this is calculated, and the timing is deliberate," Mr Donohue said.
He called for a boycott of the gallery and the hotel which houses it. |

Below is a picture from the protest.
Everybody be careful when walking past Catholic churches on Sundays, as Priests tend to fire up their flock then. Also, be careful on the subway if you see someone with a cross pendant on their neck. A "wwjd" wristband is a very chilling sign of violent radicalism as well.
Be vigilant. |

Umm, where's the original link to the photo. Looks a little photoshopped to me.
BTW, I have this exact same couch (sans Apple stickers and fancy pillows).

Good. Cause I overcharged the dude I did sell it to. Newbies are awesome for unloading useless junk.
Anyways, back to the OP. Interesting stuff eh? Though, I know what you are thinking, and you are right. Not all Christians will be burning down consulates and murdering artists over this.. Only the extremists. Fair enough. We have to consider the diversity inherent in the Catholic church. |

Actually, I don't think any Christians will be doing that. So far, all we've heard from is the Catholic League, which as far as I can tell is just a megaphone for Bill Donohue to sound off about his ongoing parade of obsessions.
That said, the League are well within their rights to call for a boycott of the hotel, just like the artist was within his rights to create the piece. |

You just wait. It will happen after Sunday prayers (chruch). The flock will get fired up and will be protesting all over the world at the American consulates in their home nations. |

Mr Cavallaro, the Canadian-born artist, is known for using food ingredients in his art, on one occasion painting a hotel room in mozzarella cheese.
He used 200 pounds (90 kg) of chocolate to make the sculpture which, unusually, depicts Jesus without a loincloth. |
And they call it art.
Yeah right. |

They should put on a performance art spectacle and eat the chocolate Jesus in front of the protestors. That's art that I'd pay to see!!! |

Using food to depict Jesus in the nude, of course, offend the religious sensibilities of many Christians. Those who revere Jesus would take offence to that just as some Hasidic Jews would take offence to some
bad depicition of Rebbe Schneerson would cause an uproar. People should leave negative depictions of revered figures alone in art if they want their work displayed. Of course, people will boycott, and it is their right. Anyway, the use of chocolate that way is a waste of food. I am not sure what the artists' point was. I remember there was a Canadian university where someone was depicting a Jesus like figure with a huge erection. Of course, it offended many people at the university. They have the right to display that, but when it is displayed at a gallery, people have a right to harm their business in response.
In answer to the question as to why violence is not occuring, violence in relation to insulting the Christ figure does happen. I don't know if you are old enough to remember the violence during the showing of the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ". However, it was minor in scale in comparison to what happened in the Middle East where a nun was killed in Somalia, a priest shot in Turkey, Palestinian policemen had to protect Palestinian churches from some extremists, and an embassy was torched in Syria.
Violence associated with religion is relatively minor in Western Europe with the expection of Northern Ireland (though that is changing quickly), but not in the Balkans where the agressors have been Catholics, Muslims, and the Orthodox. In Western Europe, in general, it has been a couple of centuries since there was religious persecution such as the one done vis-a-vis the Huguenots and the Jews unless you count the holocaust in which Jews were turned into be killed. The holocaust was an anomaly. Christians in Europe have progressed beyond using violence to respond to those who offend them and not enough in the Muslim world have progressed beyond that.
A cultural change has not completely metamorphosized there as it did in Europe. |

Are you allowed to continue with a troll that nobody bites on?
The Christians are busy with bigger problems.

Yes, both Christians and muslims, and essentially the rest of the world, despises homosexuals. Both Christians and muslims would rather the gays just not exist, and act on it from time to time. It is disgusting that they (religious homophobes) are not shouted down from the second they leave their homes. BUT, my original question stands. It isn't a troll, but a sarcastic question. Huff, WHY?
Somebody just say it?! |

I don't think that Huff Daddy can really answer this except by affirming that all religions show violence (he can even find obscure examples of those 'following' the Buddha)......Maybe we could blame it on the poverty..that's why all the violence was there...youths with no jobs so they go out and protest.... |

Remind me again what violence occurred in the US as a result of the Mohammad cartoon. I lose track of these things while I'm stuck here. |
