I've been here for about 6 months and I'm slowly starting to burn out. How do you deal with it?

get exercise. Go to a gym, hike or buy a bike.

If all that fails, check out the prostitution thread in the other forum Wink

Signing up for MLB.com did wonders a couple of baseball seasons ago.

Escapism in DVDs sometimes helps.

Decorating the home or office like it is just like back home helps (maps of back home or of places where family members live).

Starting a new hobby that's always been a little bit interesting but never been started can help (listening to/watching opera).

Taking one-day bus/train trips out of town to no place in particular sometimes can do the trick.

Been there. Just chill out. Take a silly day at school, maybe take the kids outside for some excercise. Have a snack ready for afterwards. Go to a gym that has a daily rate and pump iron. Watch a movie. Drink a beer. Hell, visit an anma. Do anything, but you can't just....

I totally empathize with you. If you leave Korea for several months and then come back, it's OK at first. After 3 months, it starts to get annoying. At 6, you're pulling your hair out and/or bored out of your mind... All times after 6 months you're counting the days, weeks, and months until your contract is over.

Personally, I go out and ride my bike a couple of hours each day..... Hard and fast ride if I am having an "I hate Korea" day. But thats just me... Try to find some way to relax when you're not at work.. Yoga? Taekwando? Running? Pottery? Watercolor?...

Fly out for 3-4 days and lie on a beach somewhere. Or fly out to Fuji-Q and spend all weekend riding rollercoasters non-stop.

When I first got here, lots of people warned me about the six month blues although I, like a lot of others, went through it a bit earlier than that. As previous posters have suggested, find something you like to do and keep yourself busy doing it. For me it was about 4-6 weeks of feeling like sh!te and then I got on top of it. It helped to know a lot of people experience the same thing.

I can usually keep my confidence and morale for about 10 months in korea. After that it has usually really eaten away at me that I just hang on until the end before taking a lengthy holiday.

I agree with the suggestions of exercise. A day at the beach usually invigorates me, too.

Download some topnotch music from limewire, & crank up the volume using headphones: or go for a hike in the mountains.

I really appreciate all the replies and advice given. It helps just knowing that lots of others are going through the same thing or have gone through it. True Samurai, thanks for that link to Zen Meditation. I will definitely look into it. I went out to a couple shopping districts today in Seoul and bought a few items I had my eye on for awhile. Knowing that the money from all of these kids' parents were going to my brand new cologne, shoes, and electronics kinda helped.
