I assume Chungnam schools are operating as usual? I wonder why only elementary schools are affected - isn't the sand also harmful to middle school students? |

I'm also wondering about that too. I guess it's Korean logic.
Jeolla Buk Province just announced that elementary and middle schools will start at 10 A.M. rather than usual 9 A.M. They are only pushing back one hour. |

No, it's sand/dust from the Gobi dessert in China. |

Kyeongnam has canceled all kindergarden and elementary school classes tomorrow as the levels down here are still off the frigging charts....
As of 11pm(normal levels are below 50 ppm cubed)
Busan: 1457
Jinju: 593
Daegu: 631
Seoul: 56
So as you can see down here in the south it is still very crappy..... |

Apparently, the stuff is pretty bad.
The number one cause of death in Korea is cancer. I think breathing in this stuff year after year would definately cause various types of cancer.
They report that, in 1980s, whang-sa lasted only 3 days (The contents were mostly sand).
In 1990s, whang-sa lasted 7 days (The contents were mostly sand but signicantly increased level of pollutants).
In 2000s, whang-sa lasts more than 12 days (half sand and half pollutants).
I suspect that, in 2010s, whang-sa will last almost a month with more toxic pollutant.
Koreans will be wiped out in 30 years as a result of Chinese Whang-Sa attack. |

Thanks Chuck,
So has anyone got any ideas on the best way to spend a free day off work as a result of yellow dust?
I mean, its 9am.
What sane person gets up that early when there not at work! |
