I know this has come up before, but I need more detail. I'm coming to Seoul this weekend. I really need a haircut. Can anyone suggest a good, english-speaking stylist? Possibly provide a phone number? Muchly appreciated. |

I usually go to the one above Burger King in Itaewon, although now I don't require their serves any longer.
Now I get "Dae-Moli!" and "ouch my eyes!" from passers-by. |

Go to Toni and Guy, they may be a little more expensive, but not alot and at least they know how to deal with western hair, you can be sure you're not goin to come out with an ajuma haircut! Its in Apujung, and there they have a website. |

I went to Toni and Guy, and wasn't too happy with what they did. Cut my hair too short, and my highlights were white blonde. Not what I was after at all. I went to just a normal hair salon here in my lil city, and got great highlights done, a trim, and a straighten for a fraction of the cost of my original toni and guy ensemble. |

Yeah, the folks above Burger King in Itaewon are pretty good, and the prices are reasonable. Another suggestion, though...if you have a Korean friend with a really great hair-cut, have him/her take you to THEIR stylist. You'll pay a lot less! The best "do" I ever had was done in a neighborhood shop! |

I also second the local stylist thing, on just a style. I went for a trim today and was really happy about the result considering all I did was say little. They even went to the trouble of using a straightening iron and all for 10,000.
However same place turned another teachers hair nuclear orange so I have horrible regrowth at present, but figure it couldn't look anyworse than having orange hair.

I went back to the same hairdressers, and got my hair re-done - no orange at all. THough she did do a lot more highlights, so I look a lot blonder now. She also trimmed it, and did a really good job. I say trust in you locals, just go to a trendy looking one, not some little hole in the wall, with the local ajumma.
But a word of advice, be careful when you go, they can take ages. I was in the hairdressers for 3 hours and all i got done was some highlights and a trim. So bear that in mind. we were late for our movie. |

On his note, I must share a story about my dear friend, a feelow poster on here. I was with her when she received the haircut from hell, from the harpy hairdresser from hell. Of course, I'm posting this now...we ddn't ay anything really to her about it, as her English was poor and well, she was wielding scissors.
Anyways, my friend wanted just a perm, and no cut. I had suggested she go to this one great place in Gwangju (Accro Hair Biz) but on the way she saw another one (Avatar) and decided to try them instead.
So, we go in, and she picks a picture out from a magazine, in order for her to communicate wih the hairstylist what she wants done to her hair. She spent a lot of time trying to communicate exactly what she wanted, and the woman acted like she understood. Remember, my friend said "Perm, no cut." Well, she starts trimming, and both of us were thinking, hmmm...but my friend said nothing as she thought she was just going to trim the dead ends. This is where my friend says "No layers, just one length," after she was asked if she wanted layers. Then the Psycho with Psyscissors starts hacking chunks out of her hair, and I guess it was a good thing I was there 'cause right then, I told my friend what was happening to her. The woman explained why she was doing this, saying that all one length is "an yeppuda," and was about to further the damage with thinning shears! We left without paying, and my friend was almost in tears. Her hair had been past her shoulders, and now, the shortest piece was just to her chin.
The other hair salon did a much better job, asking what she wanted and the hair stylist went out of his way to make sure she was understood. Holy hell, this woman went totally against what my friend wanted to do with her hair, thinking she knew what was best for her. I hate snotty hairdressers like that. Really, if my friend wanted her head shaved bald, she is the one paying, and she should get her head shaved without any editorialization from the hairdresser herself. |

Har...
I consider myself a pretty good stylist. I'll give you a cut for 500 won. Can't beat that deal. |

Hello all
I got the cut. Went to the place atop BKing. They were good. The price was very reasonable. And we only had one arguement (communication breakdown) which I lost. No harm done. Thanx for all the advice. |
