Agreed. 12 weeks off for me, paid, last year.
Between that and walking at 3:00 everyday, PS gigs just can't be beat. |

12 weeks in public school? That's awesome. |

seems to be luck of the draw.
Some schools rigidly do everything by the book (mine). Other schools are prepared to compromise and stop the foolish summer/winter camp BS. |

Just like nautilus said, it's a luck of the draw or roll of the dice. I had to sit at school for another week after I did a winter camp. Sit at school again at the end of Feb. Asked to take a paid day off to show my brother around Seoul...denied, even though I have never called in sick or taken advantage of them. So, fine...I will now use all my sick days and use my 14 + 5 vacation days to finish out the year on holiday. And then I am done.
Yeah, it's frustrating because you talk to others in the same boat and they had Jan. off...no problem from their school and still have their vacation days to use. My school seems to get off throwing the contract in my face. It all depends. Sometimes public schools are the best and sometimes they suck. Mine sucks. Oh well, 4 months to go. |

Hi again. Very interested in all the replies. At the moment I am given to understand that the Board of Education are "discussing the matter"...yeah sure...I know that i am not the only one in my area querying this too, which helps. Up to now I have let it ride while I await the outcome of discussions. two possibilities are currently exercising my mind. One is to ring the Board myself and press the issue (my co teacher rang them previously), the other is to ignore the issue and just book my two weeks for summer nearer the time and take them whether or not. I am thinking to myself - come Summer what's the worst that can happen? |

To the ones (like me), who get tons of holidays, you should be more careful about saying the public school gigs are wonderful, as these are not common. Most public school jobs are ok, which is better than the "some" hagwons are good |

I don't think you will find I said anything about public schools being wonderful, nor indeed anything about hagwons being awful. I merely stated that the holiday time was what had attracted me to the public school system, at least the holiday time stated on my contract anyway. |
