Israel offers Arabs peace talks

Olmert had hinted earlier at possible concessions for peace
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has proposed holding a regional peace conference following the revival of an Arab peace initiative.
Mr Olmert said if Saudi Arabia arranged a conference of moderate Arab states and invited him and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, he would attend.

Earlier, Mr Abbas urged Israel to engage in direct serious negotiations as soon as possible.

Last week Arab leaders urged Israel to accept a peace plan proposed in 2002.

Saudi Arabia has yet to respond but the BBC's Alim Maqbool in Jerusalem says Mr Olmert's call for a regional summit suggests the plan could at least form a basis for fresh negotiations.

I have been hearing stories like this too long for them to mean anything anymore.

Sure is a great cottage industry though, isn't it. If you went back 40 years, checked all the newspapers for all the similar headline stories, clipped them out...you could wallpaper the Taj Mahal with them.

Yes. I sometimes wish we might simply cut to the chase and get it over with.

They want to kill each other. Let them kill each other and be done with it, then. Unleash the thing so they might get all of their killing out of their systems, so to speak.

Ah, you are coming around to my cultural Darwinist isolationism I see. *beep* the world, as long as they leave us alone. We will deal with the winner.

So are you saying you want Arabs and Jews killed? I would rather see some kind of final settlement. Both are learning that using war to accomplish their goals isn't working between the two so-called cousins, sons of Shem, it only leads to mayham. Can they placate and satisfy one another, can there be a peace deal that both sides can maybe not love, but live with? I believe it is possible, but it won't be easy at all. It will be a bumpy ride. Both the Jews and Arabs have suffered, and, yes, part of the suffering is due to their mutual hands causing a mess. In the end, only they can reach out to one another in peace and solve their problems. At least, the King of Saudi Arabia and Olmert are not nut cases like the Iranian president. That is a good sign.

No. I don't want anybody killed. But, they need to make their own peace. An imposed peace will not be peaceful. We must stop meddling.

Wrong phrasology.

I am tired of America's being in the middle of their bickering. If they want to go after each other's jugular, we should get out of their way and let them get on with it.
