What's the best Korean owned store for your shopping needs in terms of overall quality, choice, and value. No crummy comments please (e.g. all K-stores are $#@& )

Home Plus has the best overall prices and a fair amount of foreign products.
They have their own private label which is cheap. I love their orange juice which sells for just 1,490 for a 1.5 liter bottle. |

Samsung owns the Korean branches. This is even written on their receipts. |

Wow! You left out the BEST Korean store, Home Plus.

It's a partnership, started by Tesco, which is Brititish. Sometimes when a big corporation decides to move into a foreign market, they partner with one of the local big names, and sometimes even use an entirely new name for the partnership. It makes complete sense.
Look at this article from the NY Times:
Quote: |
Before the acquisition Monday, the E-Mart chain of Shinsegae accounted for 30 percent of the local market, followed by Homeplus, which is owned by the British company Tesco, with 17 percent; and Lotte Mart, owned by Lotte Shopping of South Korea, with 12 percent. Carrefour and Wal-Mart trailed with smaller market shares.
"In contrast to Wal-Mart, the British retailer Tesco is a remarkable case of succeeding in localizing," Mr. Na said. Samsung Tesco is 89 percent owned by the British retail giant, but has relied heavily on local managers from Samsung. It is one of Tesco's biggest overseas success stories, generating a third of its overseas sales. |
Sorry guys, but you cannot say that Homeplus is a Korean-owned store unless you really wish to stretch the boundaries of what it means to own something. |

If we're gonna be that strict, Family Mart has to come off of the list too. It's Japanese.
7/11 and Mini Stop are Japanese too for the record. |

Doh -- good point. (Not about the strict part, though. If it's Japanese or British-owned, it's NOT one of the best Korean-owned stores. Get it?)
Time to make a new poll, Mr. Bum Lik. |
