I did it for a year.
It seemed fishy.
Nothing bad happened to me.

Its quite possible (even likely) that they're doing it to scam the Korean government out of taxes, not to scam you, but this is the sort of condition you should NEVER accept. Don't even consider signing it.

Do it. Take all the money and run. What is the school going to do? Fire you because you took all 'your' money?

Say there was some sort of accident and you needed all the cash and they might be stupid enough to let you scam them 2 months in a row.

Make some quick $$ and screw them. They're trying to do it to you.

Just change it so that you get all of the money into your primary account, and then YOU transfer THEM the money they're due. See if they go for it. If so, cool. If not, don't do it.

if it makes any difference, i misread the contract and that first post i wrote is actually the duties of the employer not the employee. so it explicitly says i am not liable for maintaining the bank account or any of the fees or taxes it involves. does that change anybody's take on the matter

No. The tax office does not look at contracts. It looks at your pay slip.

Why spend ridiculous amounts of time and money learning a foreign language if you don't hope for it to give you a leg up in life? I'm pretty cynical, but you're taking it to the extreme, my dear.

No. The bank account is still in your name. You are still liable for the taxes.

Had exact same eperience. Asked my Korean friend for advice. His wife is a lawyer. She said it's completely illegal. It's a tax scam. She said if he was caught though, I would never get in trouble as they'd assume I as a waegookin knew nothing about it. I still didn't take the job though. Would never work for anyone dodgy. If they're willing to con the law, then they might be willing to con you too.

You want someone to respond with actual experience with that situation?
Well, if you are here for a two year or less stint, then the tax thing will never approach you. However, if you want more than that and may return in the future, then taxes may catch up on you. But, it's not like our countries where every dollar seems to be accounted for. If you don't file a return, as a foreigner you probably won't get asked. (The penalties for non-filing, if you are sometime requested to, are really slight.)
As someone says, "Is there a need for you to file at the tax service?" This is a short term reason. As a single guy or gal, there's no reason to file. The taxes you can lose if you do have to pay at financial year end, at any stage, will be 2 million for you to pay for an average of 6-7 million/mnth going into that account over the year. Your management crew will likely not be filing any taxes so your pay stubs mean very little. Unless there is a co. reg number on the statement. In which case all is gold. But, I doubt there will be that number on your statements.

PS: These after-school programs can be quite sweet on workload. And, you can quite easily tell 'em to stick it if you don't like it. 'Cause most of the time they are below the laws so can get by with using that knowledge to your advantage.

just becasue u cant think of other ways u can be screwed by this doesnt mean the school and recuiter havent thought of it.

If ur from canada u have to report ur world income to the government.
what are they going to say when u are reporting 300 million won a year?
