Hi all,

I just found out that I have to pay taxes in the States for my past year working in South Korea, Mad and so I need my income statement faxed to me back in the States. I've tried a bunch of numbers including country codes, but the fax hasn't worked. Does anyone know what numbers you have to press to fax a statement from Korea to the U.S.??? Please!!! It's tax time, and time is of the essence!!

Thank you,
S

There are a number of trunk lines that you can access to get a line out of korea.

00700-1-(xxx)-xxx-xxxx
00388-1-(xxx)-xxx-xxxx
002-1-(xxx)-xxx-xxxx

to name just 3.

Were you here for an entire year? You should be exempt from paying on your Korean income.

The above is true but you still have to file the return.. a 1040 and a 2555ez I think. I also believe you get an automatic two month extension. But again it all depends on if you were in korea for a full year. If you have a w-2 from the states you would have to use those as well.

As far as I know it is just 001 followed by the area code, minus the first zero, and then the rest of the number.

As if you were calling someone in the US.

To call the US it is 001, followed by 1 (country code for US), followed by the area code and then the 7 digit number.
Some of the other numbers people gave here may work, calling 001 is probably the most expensive.
Just dont forget the '1' for the US country code also.

Or try scanning the document and sent that by email.

Or, they really only need to know two numbers. What is you Korea income and how much housing subsidy did they give you. You can just tell them those two numbers. The Korea pay documentation doesn't need to be actually filled with your US taxes, since it is not on a W-2. They need you Korea address, Korea employer address, dates you were out of America, you Korea income, and Korea housing subsidy.

or, tell them 'hey, don't rush me, file an extension'.

The tax laws changed this year. You are not taxed on your Korea income for first $70,000 or so; but they will raise the rate on any income you have in America. So if you have any bank accounts or investment accounts in America, those end up taxed at a higher rate because of the Korea income.
Good luck,

Pretty much, you just need to fill out form 2555(EZ) and your 1040. On line 44 of the 1040, just write $0. List your Korean home and business addy on the 2555. Since you won't owe any money, you can file an extension if that makes you more comfortable. I say just get it over with.

Ok fellow AMERICANS!!!

If i were in the US, i'd include a W-2 or 1099 (if self employed), how or what do i include in my return when filing the 1040 and 2555?

Thanks for the input.

HI,
Why do yo have to pay taxes?? EVerything uner $80,000 is tax free outside usa right? We dont get any benefits from them why would we pay taxes??
Also, when I was in Ilsan I had to dial 002 instead of 001 to get to usa when I called my credit card 800 number. Try that..
