So my newly renewed passport should be arriving soon and I am scheduled to leave this country for good in a couple of weeks.

Do I really need to go to my local immingration office to get my E-2 visa transferred? Seems like such a hassle.

I wonder if I could just show the invalid and valid passport at the same time and give up my ARC.

I think you can get the stamp at Incheon the day you are flying out--allow for time..

I do know you can't leave with a blank passport..

BTW they will take your old passport---aint going to let you walk around with 2 of them I'm sure.

I renewed my passport three weeks ago. From the US Embassy, they do let you keep the old passport. They just stamp it and put three holes in the side to make it invalid.
I am also leaving without returning to the same job. So I figured I don't need to get my E-2 visa transfered. What the poster above mentions made me realize that I might need to transfer my 'entry stamp' even though not the E-2. Is that right? Do I (and the OP), need to get our 'entry stamp' transfered to the new passport.

you are supposed to report any 'changes in your sojurn' (ie. moving, re-newing your passport) to immigration within 14 days or you are subject to a fine of up to 100k a day. I know people who have been fined because they've failed to do this and people who haven't. Up to you.

I am really glad I found out about this. It has been 4 weeks since I got my new passport. I had a friend call immigration and tell them my passport was renewed 4 weeks ago, but I just got it in the mail last week. They said no fine for that. I will go to immigration tomorrow and see if they will let me report the new passport without a fine.

While I am there I will report my "change of status of beard" too. They probably have 2 forms requiring 4 photos for that.

I know Koreans wouldn't take your old passport but I thought the Embassy or wherever you get the new one from would ...I'm surprised.

I just got back from Immigration. I went to report to them that I had made a new US passport.
My new US passport was about 25 days old, so I was afraid that they would charge me 100,000 won for each day over two weeks. No mention of this fine from the Immigration officer. This was in Seoul Immigration. I was going to say that it took time for the passport to get to me in the mail, which was true.
They put my Re-Entry permit into the new passport. There was no charge for this. They did not put anything related to my last entry stamp in the new passport. So if I didn't have or need a re-entry permit, I would have no proof that I had reported anything to immigration. My new passport would have still been totally empty, no entry stamp at all. I asked again to make sure this was right; the officer confirmed that the entry stamp is only at the airport, no need to transfer the entry stamp.
This was listed as a 'change of information on registration' not 'change of sojorn'; which is good because 'change of sojorn' costs money and change of information is free. I did need one photo for the form. They didn't seem to mind that I had grown a beard.
