I just switched from megapass premium to hanaro cable. It's cheaper and the speeds seem to be comparable in surfing the web, streaming video, and downloading torrents.

The megapass was supposed to be 13 mbp/s down and Hanaro told me that I should be getting 18 mbp/s down with their cable internet.

When I ran speed tests on the Megapass I never ever got near the apparent 13...it would usually max out at around 2. My new internet recorded a maximum speed of 3.6 which is good but nowhere near the 18 that I was quoted.

So what's up? Why is there such a disconnect between the company's quoted speed and the reality?

What site are you using to test your speeds?

May I refer you to this thread?

yeah...that has nothing to do with my question, right?

Hanaro test shows it at 18/6

Numion gives me 3/1

Dslreports gives me 3.6/640

Is it dependent on how close you are to the servers or something?

What I like to do is go to adobe.com and try out downloading one of their big trial files like, Acrobat Pro. They usually have an open high speed connection. Really shows what your download pipe is capable of. Good luck.
