Depending on where you are in Youngdeungpo, it is the sh*thole of Korea. However, it is cheap and has a great location.

Dirty, gross, third-worldish, the low-lives of Korea live there. It is a relatively dangerous area compared to other parts of Seoul. But like I said, the location is great geographically.

Really good market. You will be on line 2 which gives you easy access to most of Seoul. Between Yeoungdungpo gu and Omokyo is a good coffee shop.

I have walked though there a number of times, and it seems fine to me....

Youngdeungpo is a whole gu, not a street with a market.

It's the hooker hill of Seoul for Koreans.

Dangerous? I'm used to living in some relatively dangerous places. However, I want to go out at night and just wander around. Any instances you can recall that deem this place somewhat dangerous?

It's the poorest gu in Seoul, as far as I know. And yes, there is a huge redlight area.

Dangerous is a relative term. If you grew up in Compton then no place in Korea is dangerous. If you grew up in white suburbia then just seeing a homeless person on the street is "dangerous".

Seoul is general is a safe place for guys, and you probably won't have any/many problems, but compared to other parts of Seoul there is a lot more crime in Youngdeungpo.

To the OP, be more specific.

Overall Yeongdonpo is a very good location and if you're lucky you might be close to two major subway lines.

The area has its poor areas, but there are also wealthier ones as well. It's one of the oldest parts of Seoul.

I can only speak as a male. but I've walked through there countless times and never felt unsafe.

Yeongdonpo in many ways has a lot of character that is lacking in other parts of Seoul.
