hi folks,

so i've been offered a public school position in bundang. everything looks good, except the apartment.

apparently, the apartment that my school will move me into is 8 pyong. is that a decent sized place?
i do like to spend a fair amount of time at home on the weekends watching movies, surfing the net and whatnot...

im currently back home on a vacation and i have no way of checking out the new place. the current teacher at the school i've talked with says he has no pictures of his place (how is that even possible...).

i've paid my dues for a few years at a hagwon and im not looking to move into a jail cell.

anyway is 8 pyong a decent sized place or what?
for any public school teachers...what is the avg. size of your apt.?

As soon as you said 8 pyong, I thought about Bundang and I was right! Haha! A few years ago, I lived there, but my apartment was 6 pyong, which was relatively tiny, but not uncomfortable. For all the stuff you mention, I think it's cozy enough; it won't be very comfortable if you want to practice say, breakdancing moves. Many public schools have a hard time finding affordable housing there (Bundang real estate prices are astronomical), so a lot of places are very small, and also, I have had the misfortune of finding one too many landlords who refused to rent out to foreigners. But that could be just my luck. But in any case, let us know how it fits. Good luck with that.

Sounds like a dinky one room studio with bath.

8 pyoung is pretty small. you most likely won't have any room for a sofa and coffee table without making significant spacial sacrifices. only after 12 pyoung do you normally get that luxury.

it's doable. Bit concerned as to what I'm going to do when the wife gets here. i think I will have to keep her out on the balcony bit.

9 pyong = 320 square feet.

Why are there even places that small down in the sticks? that's what I don't get. I mean generally, one expects, or should expect, more elbow room as a trade-off for moving outside of the capital. But no, on top of the indignity of living in Poondang, they cram you in a box.

From what I understand about the town I'm in it's right on the motorway to Seoul 35 minutes or so. Prices are high. As far as I know there were bigger apartmentsnts but they were older and a bit run down.

If I stay for more than one year I'll scout about myself and see whats what.
