Has anyone on Dave's ever been here? How's the food selection? Prices?

Hannam supermarket (Hanganjin Station) is located in Hannam dong. The supermarket specializes in imported foods. All countries are cated for and most of the food is from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA. In addition, you can find food from India, Thailand, Indonesia and Pakistan.
There is an assortment of various ingredients such as imported cheese, sauces, pasta, pickle, tinned foods and 200 kinds of bottles of wine in the 200 square meters store.
If you still need more, check out the 30 kinds of rare vegetables such as Dill, basil, tarragon, rosemary. All above average in freshness.
The supermarket sports a buchers and also a foreign magazine stand. There is a good selection of science, business and military magazines there, as well as a smaller selection of Dutch and French magazines.
The owner, Mr Chung is a tall fellow with fairly basic English, but definitely enough to help you out and find what you are looking for.
The supermarket is open every day from 8:30am to 8:00pm (all year round). If you follow the directions but still can't get there, call 02 702 3313 .
The best way to get there is by going to Hanganjin station (#631) on the brown line (#6). Go out exit number 2 and walk straight around the corner and occross the road over the bridge. Walk down the hill and you will see the Volvo building - there it is! (see map).

It's extremely easy to get there from Bundang. Just take the intercity bus from Seohyeon to Seoul (9000,9001,9401,5500-1) and get off at the Dankuk Dae (University) bus stop, which is the first stop after the highway. Then walk about 10 minutes up the hill toward the Harley Davidson dealership and it will be on your right.

I go there for my whole wheat and spinach pasta along with western spices. Prices are sometimes a little high, but always worth the trip.

Hogwash! The easiest way is to drive and then dare to trek the spiral drive to Hades!

As for the place...it is a place I go to every other month to stock up on goodies (as well as other spots). The gent just outside (Dandy's) has many of the same things at cheaper prices. For me, though, I probably go more for its convenience (practically a straight shot off of Expressway #1)...then through Itaewon/Yongsan EL for final goodies.

!shoosh,

Ryst

from last week's costco thread:

"Hanaro sucks if you like good beer & coffee.

They have no bean coffee (unbelieveable) and don't sell ANY imported beer - not even Heineken.

They're such a huge store. You figure they'd be willing to carry a little variety."

I guess you're easily confused by names Crazy Arcade! Rolling Eyes

Hanaro is a mega Korean supermarket - part of the Nong Hyup group.

Hannam is a specialty grocery store that caters to people wanting foreign foods.

Sorry, no cigar! You can try to catch me next time! Very Happy

Yeah Hannam market kicks ass. In addition to what Dev mentioned, the little store right up in the front when you walk in carries several kinds of deoderant, frozen burritos, hamburger helper, several kinds of dried beans, western cold medicine, taco and chilli seasoning, and various other impossible to find elsewhere items.

What are the prices like? Sounds good, but my girlfriend says it's expensive.

hehe

I've never heard of Hanaro, but I've seen the small local nong hyup grocers. Anyways, I went to Hannam Mart for the first time in 3 years not too long ago. Prices are high but not outrageous for a lot of stuff. I wouldn't buy cheese there.

Hannam Market is the only place that, IMHO sells decent mayo. Nowhere else.
