Anyone know how to go about renting a van taxi? I checked the Galbijim Wiki taxi page but couldn't find anything.

If not a van taxi, then some other way of transporting 3-4 large boxes could be recommended.

Thanks!

Probably best to hire a 'bali bali bongo truck'. Local guys where you live. They are surprisingly cheap for a simple short-haul. Look in the free ads papers, if your Korean is up to that, or ask a local Korean.

Thanks Eamo. It's actually called a bali bali bongo truck? In Korean it would be 빨리 빨리 봉고 트럭? It's just one of those blue pickups, I'm presuming?

Why not try a delivery service? 택배 The Postal Service charges 8,000 won for a 20 kg box. It's usually there the next day.

I went the Bongo ajosshi route, and would do so again. I had a whole Bongo full of stuff to move from Insadong to Gunpo with a stop in Anyang in between - he helped me load and unload everything (including getting all the stuff down from my third floor apartment and up to my second floor apartment). It took about three hours, and he charged me 60,000 won.

(The best part is you get to ride in a Bongo with a Bongo ajosshi.)

Awesome!

Qinella.........I call them bali bali bongo trucks because those guys shift your stuff at lightning pace. As far as I know, Koreans just call them 'taek bae'.

Okay the bongo service sounds cool. How do I go about procuring one? Just check the paper?

I was wrong about 'taek bae'. The correct name for the service you want is 이 사. 'Taek bae' is a delivery. Not a moving service. You should find many 이 사 numbers on the back page of those free ad papers found on the streets.

A friend of mine introduced me to the concept of the for-hire Bongo ajosshi and secured his services for me. I'll ask her and PM you if she's still got the contact information.

Perhaps checking the local papers? I suspect there must be a Korean equivalent of the "Man With Truck" classified ad ("Ajosshi With Bongo"?!?). I also did a quick search on Dave's of "Bongo truck" and a few on-topic thread titles appeared.
