|
|
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A major trade deal between the United States and South Korea received a mixed response on Monday as some U.S. business leaders and politicians complained it fell short on boosting U.S. auto and agriculture exports.
U.S. trade officials called the bilateral deal a strong, innovative pact that would improve market access for American cars, beef, oranges and financial industries.
They pointed to the elimination of tariffs within three years on almost 95 percent of consumer and industrial products, and the phasing out over a decade of most other tariffs.
But the deal, which officials wrapped up in a last-minute negotiating marathon, has already raised hackles in Congress.
Sen. Max Baucus, chairman of the influential Senate Finance Committee, threatened to block the deal, saying negotiators failed to ensure sufficient access for U.S. beef exports.
"I will not allow it to move through the Senate, unless and until Korea completely lifts its ban on U.S. beef," he said.
There is more to the story!

Looks like the Senate is going to finally speak out for the American people.

It's too bad the Korean government won't lift the ban. Until then, the price of meat is going to remain high and will mostly come from domestic sources or Australia. |

I prefer eating Australian beef over American beef and the same for European beef. American beef is banned in Europe. If they would leave the cows alone instead of injecting them will all kinds of hormones, I wouldn't mind consuming it. I consume it when I am in America, because that's the beef that's available, and I can't make the industry change.
As far as the deal with Korea, I am not sure what I think about it. It would be good for us teachers of English. More would want to learn English and vitamins would become cheaper, and some of us might get jobs with American companies opening offices here. |

I can't comment on Aussie Beef, but it's been proven that American Beef is just horrible for your health (Canadian beef aint much better, since its the same companies.
These major US compaies are absolutely injecting the cows with tons of hormones and chemicals (as are most foods created by multinationals). Doesn't Europe also have a ban on US Beef. Not that Korea is much better, there is a ton of pork here and they are nature's natural garbage can. They eat anything.
But anyway if Aussie's beef is raised naturally, no chemicals or hormones, them we're better off eating Aussie beef.\
US Beef has also been irridated, basically just a radioactive method of removing all living enzymes, therefore you are basically eating plastic.
The process is FDA approved, but the FDA is one of the top 3 criminal organisations in the world. |

Really? By whom, dare I ask? Sounds to me like more anti-GM crowd propaganda.
American beef is simply the best, bar none, for quality, price, and selection. So say I, anecdotally of course. |

FTR - I didn't say you had to stop eating meat.
Simply that it's BAD for you, from both a general health as well as KARMICK standpoint.
The CHOICE is always yours |

Yeah...and your "KARMIC" belief is just my point. That's your opinion, but going around and preaching to people about not eating meat is almost as intrusive as Steve telling people if they don't support the war then then don't support the troops.
Maybe you should go sit on Steve's lap. He is pretty fond of you. |

LOL. Okay, I was thinking more along the lines of saving American from all
those cheap plastic products which would be flooding the shelves of every Walmart only to be tossed in the heap a few months later.
And I was warned several years ago to never buy a Killed In Action (KIA) car. |

An enlightened government would protect cows - not the beef industry - which is a blight on the face of the earth... |
