Hello.
Came to work this morning and was given a 4 page heatlh form to fill out. The form is from the National Nealth Insurance Corporation. I am a policy-holder. Part of it requires a dentist visit, and part of it a doctors visit. Some is just for myself to fill out. It says it's a health screening service provided every two years for policy holders over 40.

My cot-teacher said I was to have it all filled out and then give it back to him. I said if you give me an address to send it to, I will have it done and mail it in. He said, "No, because they wanted to make a copy of it for my school file." I said, "This is my personal medical information and I will not give it to the school." I said I would be happy to provide some confirmation that it was completed and sent, but that the information is personal and private.

For the first time since I started working here, he looked offended.

Has anybody else received this from NHIC?
What did it cost you out of pocket if anythning?
Did you have the health check done?
Does it concern you also that your private medical history is in an open filing cabinet for anybody to peruse?

(I know everybody has access to my file cause people outside my department have said something odd and when asked, have glibly said, "Oh, I read your personell file." )

And one more question.
Part of the survey asks about family history.
Can someone in the know please translate the following.

I DON'T KNOW. I WAS ADOPTED.

Thank you.

Something is fishy!

I was asked if I had a medical check done. I work at public schools and had heard about it online but was never asked to get one.

In my case when the school nurse gives the ok. I must visit a hospital to have tests done. My co-teacher said I can't eat from 9pm the night before, the test will be done in the morning. Apparently blood will be taken and I'll have an ECG and have to do a urine test.

I was told all teachers must to this once every two years. I wonder if that over 40 thing is BS or not? Did you have a check when you started at your school?

I am concerned about privacy too. Back home my mum couldn't call for my test results! Here they said the hospital will send the results to the school to presumably put on file. I'm not happy about that at all but I guess I'll have to put up with it. I will demand a copy of the results.

I don't want discussions to go on about my white blood cell levels or platelets etc in the staff room! Imagine that! "Oh good morning, I hear you have high blood pressure."

Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I had a health check done in order to get my public school job, but never did one for NHIC. I think it's entirely reasonable that they want it done, my only issue is that it should be private.
In any event, there's not a chance in hell I'm going to tell the truth knowing it will likely be a public document.
I will also ask the doctor who does the exam to provide a letter of confirmation that it was done, and that the results were fine (I hope). I will give that to my school. I will ask that my results be kept private....not that it would help any, but I'll ask anyways.

I started in October of last year.
I also found out this morning that I just need to turn it in this year sometime. I'm assuming that means I have until december 31st.
