Background setting: Two years ago - Home alone, living in the country, only house for a kilometre or two, first day back at work having had a couple of days off sick with a chest infection, bad cough etc.

Got out of the shower, coughed a few times .. and my throat/airway closed up. Couldn't breathe .. not a damn breath.
First reaction ... Im naked .. if I call an amublance or die .. CAN'T be naked!
Threw on Pjs .. 30 seconds and counting .... went for the phone to call 111 ... cordless handset NOT on phone .... curse flatmate, panic and scramble around apartment looking for phone.
Find it ... battery dead (thanks to his long hours at night on the phone to internet girlfriends). At least 1min30 ... try to just relax, concentrate on opening that airway ..... passed out.

Came to a few minutes later, and after a very quick trip to the Dr - he put it down to a 'spasm' in my throat and that the fact I passed out put my body in relax mode enough for it to open the airway again.

Never had the bejesus scared out of me as much as I did that morning.

shit! I forgot all about the one that should probably be added to my post over in the "stupidest thing you've ever done" thread:

Growing up, my chores included mowing the lawn every Saturday. We had an OLD gas mower. One afternoon, the connection to the spark plug came loose. No problem, I'll just re-connect it again (without turning the motor off).

All I remember is a jolt that felt like a dozen sledgehammers smashing up my arm simultaneously, and waking up about 10 feet from the mower. Started shaking when I realized just how close I was to electrocuting myself.
