|
|
| Anyone know of a good gym in Ilsan, other than World Gym, which costs 100,000 won/month? The manager made sure to inform me that he was giving me a huge discount because I am a foreigner, and I told him I need a bigger discount since I won't be able to understand the instructors in any of the classes, but 100,000 was the final offer and I'm considering taking it because of all the pretty ladies, but if anyone knows of another place near La Festa, that would be great! |

| Can't really help you with gyms near La Festa, but it sounds quite expensive. I pay 80,000W for 3months....it's only a small local place (Jungsan, 10 min taxi from La Festa), but it does the job. Also, I paid the fee once, got a card, and continue to go with no quetions asked. It's been 8 months now. Not a bad deal. |

| I've seen a place that offers 1 year for about 340,000. I've only seen the ads in the elevator, and sorry, I couldn't tell you where it is because I take the bus from Gangnam and get off at the first stop. I don't know which part of Ilsan it is in. The point is, you're getting ripped off |

Well, after a few days of searching, the verdict is most definitely in...Upline Gym, across from Outback near Jeoyop Station, is where it's at. 350k for a year, but you must pay cash, up front. If you use a credit card, it's 380k. One month is 60, 3 is 120.
World Gym's discount is 100k/month. The benefit is the ladies, the indoor driving range, and if youre a woman, the classes.
There are a few others in the 60-80k range.
Thanks Wylies, see ya at Upline. |

No problem. Don't tell TOO MANY others about this place. One of the reasons I like it is the fact that I can workout in peace.
Last gym, in another town, there was an idiot who thought he knew EVERYTHING about working out. Needless to say, he didn't have a clue.

darkhorse- shame you aren't closer to the Upline Gym. It's three subway stops up from your location, but well worth it. It's cheaper than most gyms in Korea, and it has SERIOUS weights. Example-You can go up to 200 kg on the pull-down bar. Most Korean gyms shy away from heavy weights.
You can lift serious weights and run. They even have classes for women.
I've made what I consider to be very good progress in just a couple months. |

If you come out of Exit 4 and walk straight for 100 meters and turn left after the hospital, you'll see Alpha Fitness on the right, next to Tunnel Night Club. 3rd and 4th floors.

It's good to join a gym ASAP when you arrive. If you get into the habit of working out and make it part of your routine, you'll be in GREAT shape by the end of a year. MANY other teachers party hearty for 9 months and then try to get in shape in a few weeks before they leave. |

Just a simple observation- in Korea, EVERY gym has plenty of things for running. Don't overpay for something you can do outside, after it warms up.
The hard part is finding a gym for serious lifting.
Have you ever worked out- seriously- before? If not, post a new topic, asking for advice. There are some people on here who can help with any goals you may have- big or small.
And, ANY progress is better than nothing. |

yeh semi-seriously I guess as in 3 times a week, circuit lifting 'cos it took less time and toned me a bit. My goals are burn fat, increase cardio capacity and upper body strength in that order. I've still got a ways to go but I mite continue with the lifting I was doing for a month or so and then change it up to really increase my upper body strength and start interval training to burn some extra fat kilos.
cheers for the advice. I'll post if I need some more, there seems to be a good number of people who like to work out on this forum, it's a pretty good resource |
