ok..so today i decided to get my vaccines and i'm wondering whether it was a mistake...
I got needles for Polio, Tetanus/Diphteria, Twinrix (Hep A and B), Japanese Encephalitis.
I also paid for 2 oral vaccines (as i hate needles): Typhoid/Cholera and Malaria...

Aside from my shoulder hurting like hell, I paid for all of this $798.00! Is this normal???

Plus, in the next 2 weeks i have to come back for 4 more needles: 2 more for Twinrix, and 2 more for Japanese Encephalitis...which will be another $400.00 or so..

So, I just wanted to know whether ppl normally get all of this...I mean those of you who do not want to take chances....and how much have you paid...whatever I had paid seems insane...

DPT and Hep were good ideas. I don't think Japanese Enceph, Typhoid/Cholera, or Malaria were necessary. But at least you'll be covered in case you ever decide to travel somewhere they'd be needed.

I'm not sure of the prices, as my shots were free when I was in the Peace Corps.

I definately want to travel througout Korea, as well as to Japan, Tibet, and Thailand...so I thought to get all the needles, as I don't want to worry about getting sick...it just seems that it came to too much...I definately think it should be covered either by the schools or your own Health Insurance (country of origin)...

-joeyjoejoe-My Twinrix came up to $195.00, it's a set of three, so $65.00 each...

When I left NZ 4 yrs ago I paid 1000 for my son and I to have JE, rabies, Hep and others so seems bit much for one person. But better safe than sorry eh. just keep up with boosters too to justify having them to start with lol. We have managed to do so.

canadian public health insurance will pay for any shots that are needed for life in canada. they will NOT pay for shots that are required to travel.

Where are you, when you're getting these shots?? That seems like an outrageous price to me, but then Australia has subsidised drugs that sees tantrums for medicine costing more than $50.

For what it's worth, and I guess it's a bit late now, but my doctor told me the only thing I should really be worried about in Asia was malaria, and the rest had only a small chance of being contracted.

I've lived in Korea for a few years, and travelled throughout SEA for months at a time with nothing more than a few malaria tablets without a problem so far.

Ummmmm ...

Why bother?

Likely more of a chance that the magickal "VACCINES" affect our health negatively, lingering illnesses, lowered immunity death etc, than would we ever contract something because we didn't or don't.

Then again don't take my word for it, ASK AN EXPERT:

Because vaccines have been one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century.

Only because vaccines have been effective in nearly eliminating several terrible diseases. Go to a country were some of those vaccines are not widely available, and you are susceptible to catching one of those nasty diseases that have been eradicated from developed countries.

I have traveled though central america, europe and asia. I've been living in asia for a good 3ish year and have been to way remote places. I have never gotten a vaccination and nor do I intend to. The odds of ever catching one of these viruses or diseases is slim to none. If you are teaching there is pretty much no chance you will ever catch one. Maybe if you are trekking through the rain forests for a really long time you could get something, but they are all pretty rare, and mostly treatable.

My advice would be to save the grand and buy something a little more useful, oh and they don't ever tell you but people have died from getting vaccinated. So that's even a risk in itself...

but that's just me

Save the money & do something a little more useful with it? Good point.

Makes me in fact think of whole stupid TESEOL certification SCAM Idea

Are you travelling through an area where the plague is running amuck? Are people droping like flies?

Having said this the "drug" makers in conjunction with corrupt state legislators & deep pocket paper shufflers would love to have MANDATORY VACCINATION.

Super solutions implemeted via fearful coercion + MIND control.

Look at the whole bird flu hysteria. Hey, money-grubbing investors demand returns.

Do what you like, but my advice is not to be one of the sheeple.

I'd FOR sure get the hep shots!! Hepatitis B is VERY common in SK.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=11339422&dopt=Abstract

Granted, this study is 6 years old, but I don't think much has changed!

As far as malaria, unless you're planning to live north of Ilsan (way up near the northwest tip), I wouldn't worry about it.
