i'm not really depressed at all... i just thought it was a clever pun. i am, however, in a bit of a pickle. i've been travelling with a friend in europe for the past month or so, and while we were in budapest, our car was broken into. among the items stolen were most of my worldly posessions, including all of my clothes (save for what i'm currently wearing, and another t-shirt), my luggage, and my university diploma.
the clothes and bags and whatnot can be replaced. what's more, i like to think i might be the first esl teacher to show up for a year in korea with only a carry-on bag.
however, it's my diploma that was rather a swift kick in the balls. as you all know, this is required for me to get an e-2 visa. but i was wondering if any of you know the answer to this: since i've already had two e-2 visas, surely the officials at the consulate would be able to put together that i must have graduated from an accredited university, wouldn't they? has this ever happened to anyone before?
sure, it's not the most terrible of tragedies, but i'm still in europe, and before i go to all of the bother, time, and expense of having my university mail another copy of my diploma to bratislava, i'd like to take this shot in the dark that maybe this set of circumstances has happened before to someone who reads this forum, and that they were successful in finding another way around it. thanks alll!

You will need your diploma, even if you've previously been issued E2 Visas. I am 100% sure of that. You may even need your transcripts. I'd get in touch with your uni asap.

BTW - the only way around it is to work illegally which is not the best idea.

I too think that you'll need your diploma. Sure, it makes sense that immigration can look up the fact you have been here before and piece together you must have had a diploma to get an E2, but bureaucracy was never based on intuition and giving people the benefit of the doubt. You're going to have to contact your school to get a replacement copy sent to you first before you look for a job here.
You do have my sympathies that someone stole all of your stuff, by the way.
