mikowee: I don't know the answer to your question about the policy, but I think teacher-student relationship is, or at least should be, 100% forbidden.
As far as I know, it's not that uncommon for a male teacher to marry his former student in real life. It must be happening quite often. I don't even remember how many K-movies I've seen that describe realtionships between teacher and student. Maybe 10 out of the 170 K-movies I've seen so far. But naturally this wouldn't proove anything that's happening in real life, though. |

This would be called an ad hominem argument. Specifically, certain posters are attempting to use the ad hominem tu quoque argument against me. It's not surprising that they're resorting to such desperate measures, since they are trying to defend the indefensible. |
I just like to mention that TIffany is hawt. Chinese Malaysian girls are hawt. |

I've inquired about this to my CT. According to my CT, it occurs once in a while. Not too common, but not that uncommon. She's seen it once in her 20 years of teaching. It occurs well after the student has left school (4 or so years after) and it's always the former student that does the pursuing. Also, the teacher, in question, is usually very young at the time of first knowing the student. Maybe a new graduate fresh out of university.
Also, for students asking for phone numbers. If students really wanted to know your phone number, they would have gotten it from the teacher's phone list that is avaliable on every teacher's desk, or asked another teacher. |

| Anyone know the policy on teacher-student relations in a public high school? I've been curious for a while now, but not because I have any intentions of seducing one of my students. It's just that the attitude of the other teachers seems overly cavalier towards some of the girls' behaviour. There are a few students that like to follow me around and proclaim their love, and some have even asked me for my number in front of the other teachers. They just laugh at it. The only conclusion I could come to is that it is either a) acceptable to have a relationship with a student, or b) the other teachers have the utmost faith in my strength of character to resist tempation, even though I'm fairly young. Too lazy to actually confirm anything, though. |
What policy? I generally just let the novelty wear off. It's certainly not acceptable to have a 'relationship' with a student though 'I love you, too' is fine. |

They are just flirting with you, and it's just an experimental behavior as they explore their developing womanhood.
Think about girls at a concert. Sure, they're screaming the rock star's name, and getting weak-kneed whenever he looks in their direction. However, except for the few who are groupies, they're not really seriously considering having a one-night stand with him, however much they may genuinely like him.
Your students probably truly like you, and are just being flirtatious. As another poster mentioned, if they really wanted your phone number, they could have easily gotten it through more surreptitious means. It's a kind of public display of affection.
Appreciate it for what it is. Don't let it get to your head -neither your big one nor your little one. |

What's the word for this:
my neigbor has a nice car; but I can't afford a nice car like that; I can't get the car out of my head; so I join an anti-automobile club and we hand out flyers about how dangerous automobiles are and about how much pollution they cause?
Is it repression? Displacement? I was never a Psych major, maybe someone could shed some light on this? |
