Who wins the Jerk of the Century Award?*
Let's crunch some numbers:
First, the loathsome British Hooligan:
Typical age: Early youth to middle age
Typical socioeconomic status: Working class poor
Methodology: Starting brawls at football matches, screaming, shooting the bird
Frequency of attack: Daily/weekly during football season
Weapon of choice: Fist, chairs, bottles, whatever is lying around
Typical casualties: Bumps, bruises, broken bones, lacerations, wounded pride, occasional fatalities
Impact on society:
Scares away tourists: Somewhat
Scares away businesss: Not really
Second, the pugnacious Korean Unionized Worker:
Typical age: Early middle age to ancient
Typical socioeconomic status: Working class middle income
Methodology: Demonstrations, disturbing the peace
Frequency of attack: Monthly, at least
Weapons of choice: Molotov cocktails, steel pipes, baseball bats, feces
Typical casualties: Bumps, bruises, broken bones, lacerations, wounded pride, occasional fatalities
Impact on society:
Scares away tourists: Not really
Scares away foreign business: Like the plague
So, the results are in, and the numbers have been tallied....
Korean Unionized Workers WIN, by a nose!!!!
*No, I'm not a candidate you panty waist. |

The "British hooligan" is a ridiculous stereotype which is not backed up by evidence. If you look at the amount of violence and racism that exists every match day in countries like Spain and Italy, you will see that it is all about. The recent clashes between hardcore Olympiakos and Panathanaikos "supporters" in Greece also underlines this. The "ultra" groups that operate in Italy at teams like Lazio are another example. Hooliganism in England is actually pretty lame when you compare it to what happens in mainland Europe. |

Agree with above that the OP is based on an stereotype concocted through ignorance. Think about the British hooligans and their ability to make trouble overseas, before the UK police got wise and tightened up restrictions. Then think of mobs like the Chelsea headhunters. What do they have in common, well, both had money to travel and afford the lifestyle. Following a team around the continent, nay even the country isn't cheap. |

Wrong. They're still bad news and they're still causing trouble. Not as much as in the good ol' days, but they're still bad news. Not as bad as Korean Unionized Workers, however, which is the whole point. |

Korean Unionized Workers: Fighting for what they believe in. Doing whatever is necessary to improve their working conditions and those of others.

Yes, but why "British"? Fans from other countries, especially in Europe, have taken over from the British as the worst hooligans. It's just that the British were the first to make it to the headlines, and so the stereotype has stuck. |

It's funny seeing all the defence of England here They are right though, the OP is based on a generalization, which in itself is not a valid argument. Let alone the generalization is based on even less than the normal percieved links between generalization cause and the effect. |

Uh oh, you're stalking me. I'm going to have to report you and there will be serious consequences, blah blah blah.

Why not? Frankly they're p*ssies compared with Italians and Spaniards, but they're also the most talked about (read: vilified in the media) so I chose them. Get a goddam clue. I could have substituted any number of entities rather than British Hooligans (George Bush probably would have made you happy) but the hooligans were such an inviting target and despite what Laogaiguk says, there are similarities between the two groups. |

If by p*ssies you mean that they don't get involved in so many fights etc as Italians and Spaniards, then you're right. But then that also makes them less of a hooligan. Whatever point you're trying to make, this isn't really a good way to go about it. You're just making yourself look a bit silly. |

by a nose? by miles if you're comparing todays so called 'British hooligans'. Maybe compare the nutcases from the 70's/80's perhaps .......
The Argies are the worst though, violence is quite common in their domestic league games with fatalities.......the Argies even still sport the long mullets...it's like England 20/30 years ago
But really, the Italians/Spaniards/Greeks/Turks have been getting away with it for years......UEFA never batted an eyelid in the past and only chose to make an example out of every minor incident involving the British despite the 10x worse goings on in italy (running battles with police, 4 Salernitana fans burned to death in 99 on a train carrying their fans etc) ,Turkey (ie:2 Leeds fans getting stabbed to death with UEFA choosing to ignore it)....the list goes on....if any of that happened in the Prem League, UEFA would be up in arms, be made an example of and English clubs/fans being banned from European compeitition
you can at least take a family to an Premier League game in the safe knowledge that you wont be attacked.....you rarely see many familes/kids in the Italian/Greek etc leagues |

Actually many hooligans were found to be middle class white collar types with decent jobs. Managers, lawyers, doctors.
My money would be on them over the korean protesters i think. |

Nope. Look at recent incidents in Rome, France and Spain. Generally well-behaved fans goaded by continental police with little idea how to run a proper crowd-control operation stirred up when baton charged. Happened to Celtic fans in Spain a few years ago too, the chairman's son, a paragon of good behaviour was whacked by an over-zealous plod. British police, on the contrary, have led efforts in reducing football violence. Tell me why it is at a premiership match you have seating all the way down to the touch line, no nets, moats or riot police around the perimeter and effective stewarding and monitoring procedures to combat violence. Then go to a game in Italy, Holland, Russia, Greece, Spain or France and tell me if you would take your kids there. Not likely. |
