I was talking to a friend last night. He lives 2 floors below ground in a windowless apt./villa complex. We came up with the idea of having a large glass window that is really a giant television screen that has a camera pointing outside.
So imagine this; say you have a camera on the 1st floor, 3rd floor, 8th floor and 14th floor. You can switch to whichever channel you feel like having. The computer effects would simulate a sunbeam coming into the window, along with nature sounds in a virtual (Matrix) kind of way you could "look" outside of your apartment. Sort of a new reality.
In addition, you could have cameras that were shooting the Matthorn in Switzerland, a wilderness scene in Michigan, a beach in front of Miami, whatever. You simply had to switch channels. I think it would be cool for those living in crappy sub-basement dwellings in Asia, etc.
Any thoughts? |

Hell, you could go even further and have cameras in different places, starting with the "lobby" of you building, to bars, shopping malls, etc and watch real reality TV.
If the monitors are hooked to your computer you could find web cam sites from around the world for scenery and/or entertainment. |

The only problem with streaming internet feeds are the really, really low quality your are going to have on a big screen. It will probably look like crap. However, if you hardwired a nice CCTV to the outside of your apartment building, it could be nice. Good luck. It sounds like a fun project. |

Why would you live below ground with no windows. |

If you could afford a set up like that wouldn't you have enough money to move out of the basement?
But Mishlert's idea is pretty good. Get a cam on different places around the world like Angkor Wat, Trevi Fountain, Times square, wherever, and have it stream to different places for either your television idea or as a screen saver. |
