LONDON, England (CNN) -- The 15 British military personnel captured by Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf were subjected to "psychological pressure" and kept in isolation during their detention, the group's officers said on Friday.
Lt. Felix Carman of the British Royal Navy, addressing a news conference at a military base in Chivenor, southwestern England, said the sailors and marines were well outside Iranian waters when the incident occurred -- despite previous statements to the contrary while in Iranian custody.
"Irrespective of what has been said in the past, when we were detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard ... I can clearly state we were 1.7 nautical miles from Iranian waters," Carman said... |

A clear violation of Geneva! That's important right! Now that it's Brits instead of insurgents, I guess. |

Actually, it is. Show me where the Brits have violated Iranians' Geneva Rights. |

Unfortunately, Geneva Convention doesn't apply. Law of the Sea and International Court does, though, right? |

Precisely.
And even if the British had violated the Geneva Accords via any Iranian POWs, this would still be an Iranian violation of the Geneva Accords vis-a-vis these uniformed, active-duty officially-recognized British sailors and marines on an officially-santioned mission in its own right -- and this is the issue. |

I guess it was not as obvious as I thought. I see plenty of irony in people being outraged about this Geneva violation but not the many we have seen over the past few years on our side. American conservatives who spent much time since 9/11 deriding and denigrating the accords as 'quaint' are seeing the fruits of their labor. |

Wasting your breath, HD. Anyone stupid, foolish and crazy enough to turn us back to a state of savage war does not have any place in their heart or mind to consider another perspective. The rules apply only as the rulers wish them to, no? |

Indeed.
Like, for example, the United States Supreme Court and John McCain and everyone else in the United States Senate who supported his bill...?
However this may be, I find it amazing that some here still refuse to recognize what this was all about from day one...

Ambassador Rasoul Movahedian told the Financial Times newspaper that Iran had "showed our goodwill" by freeing the sailors.
"Now it is up to the British government to proceed in a positive way," he was quoted as saying on Saturday...
He said "the prime issue for Iran" was recognition from the West of its right to a nuclear power program. |

And who said that had nothing to do with it? What idiot, besides you, gopher, assumes that the unspoken is the unthought? The not previously stated? The non-obvious? Context is everything. I don't recall anyone saying otherwise. It is your own unsophisticated practice to assume that because the context is not stated it does not exist. But when the context is so overwhelming, need it be stated in each and every post?
I think not.
This is one danger of reading books, but not applying life experience to what you learn. It is why the young are often brilliant (though hardly your case), but rarely wise. And do please note that wisdom has little to do with education. |

So many fascinating assertions.
I think you ought to get out of sandwhich-making and into the fortune-cookie business, BLT.

Non-sequitur? Ad hominem? Straw man? Diversion?
Gooph, when you start talking to adults, as opposed to kids or students, you find you have to deal with the world in a whole new way. Anyone can memorize, son. Most can understand. Few really know.
Try real hard, you might make it to #2 someday. |

I think he was referring more to the right-wing crowd that approves of secret prisons and such. People like you. |
