|
|
So today is Easter and my son (13 months old) is getting baptized and what happens, my camera completely craps out on me. Damn...
We obviously need a new camera. Our budget is about 300,000 and I would like to get the best I can get for that price. I'm looking for a slim camera that could easily fit in your breast pocket with the most mega-pixels I can get.
I remember reading somewhere that not all megapixels are created equal. I believe that smaller pixels were better, but I'll have to check that. anyhow The best that I can get for that price - I figure 5 megapixels is minimum but I'd prefer 7 or 8.
The best optical zoom I'm guessing based on the slim camera I'll be stuck at 3x but if I could get a 4x or 5x I'd be really happy. I don't give a rats ass about digital zoom as all that does is destroy the quality of your picture.
I'm not lookign for a particular brand, but would like to stay away from no-name brands. Any advice I could get would be appreciated. Anecdotal reviews are great or professional review sites.
Will be purchasing in the next 7-10 days. |

For smaller cameras, I really like the Canon Digital Elph (Ixus/Ixy) line. I have a number of friends who've gotten various models over the years and they've all had great success with that particular line.
Edit: Check this site, it's got some excellent camera reviews.

Digital zoom only destroys the quality of the picture if you're really looking out for the details. A 3 megapixel shot looks great on most computer screens and unless you are professionally printing the shots nobody will notice the difference. I'd buy a slim 4 megapixel 3x digital zoom for your family moments to show on your computer and a better camera needs a bit more consideration. |

woops. I just did a google image search since I didn't recognize the brand. May take a look at that more seriously. |

I love my Canon IXY 800IS, image stabilization, 6 megapixel ccd, 4x optical zoom, 2.5" lcd, takes great shots, its about the size of a pack of cigarettes, maybe a touch smaller. Got it w. 1 gig SDcard for under 300 000W.
Review of the N.American model, the SD 800IS:
